I applaud this move. Especially when so many politicians pussy foot around the issue for fear of losing hispanic voters. Soon enough california will be known as "little mexico"

LOL!!!

I agree with his opinion on border control and agree with your on legal immigration. I even liked Bush's idea of a day worker pass system.

Arnie is slipping big time though. His popularity is around that of Gray Davis's when Davis was recalled.

RU serious about his popularity being that low now?

Californians are such flakes, they don't think beyond their noses, evidently they thought they were elected the Terminator...........not Arnold the AAS user. :lmao:

I know, we are a nation of immigrants and we are supposed to welcome the poor and downtrodden, right? That may have been true 200 years ago, but it won't be long untill WE are the poor and downtrodden. If things are bad in Mexico, then the Mexicans should fix their own country, not leave it. Mexico loves the fact that their poor people come to the US so they can send their money back home and have 4 or 5 babies in our hospitals that American taxpayers have to pay for. American hospitals on the border are being bankrupted by illegals, and many who come here don't want to assimilate or learn English. I have a good idea for those who think that America should feed, clothe, and shelter the entire world. Move to Mexico and see if they accomodate you like America accomodates them. Tell them you want government services and you have no intention of learning to speak the native language, ask them to learn English instead. Put a big American flag in your yard. Let us know what happens. One of the biggest problems in the world is that there are too many people, and America is no longer a frontier waiting to be settled, we have enough people already. We don't need millions of uneducated illegal aliens sneaking into our country. I don't blame them for coming, the fault lies with a handful of Americans who are getting richer off their labor, while working class natives are footing the bill for the strain illegals put on social services. More and more people are finally pulling their heads from their asses and realizing that something needs to be done. It seems like the Border Patrol does just enough to slow the tide, but are careful not to be too effective because that would make people like chicken pimp Don Tyson mad about them hassling his workers. Our government could stop illegal immigration if it really wanted to, but they don't.

Exactly.

That's wherein the fault lies.

You can't have it both ways.

You can't exploit immigrants then take a hardline stance against them working here illegally.

The real issue, is of course, not the immigration per se.

Unregulated immigration built this place.

The real issue is the social services; these play a role in preserving divisiveness and slowing assimilation. If you came here in 1875, you could keep in touch with home country cultures, but you had to learn English and be part of the community pretty quick if you wanted to make a life for yourself.

Social services, as usual, are the problem.

It's not just California. Many states allow illegals to go to school and some even help them pay for college. What's the point of providing college tuition for an illegal alien if it's still against the law to hire them once they graduate? Who was the Einstein behind that?

Wrote a paper about this for Econ class. Below are some quotes from it:

As Hudgins predicted immigration would decrease, a report released by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service estimated that in 1990, just over two million illegal immigrants from Mexico were living in the United States (Estimates of the Unauthorized Immigrant…). Ten years later in 2000, the number of illegal immigrants living in the United States from Mexico was estimated to be almost five million (Estimates of the Unauthorized Immigrant…). In 2004, there were almost ten million illegal immigrants in the United States (Purvis). Clearly, NAFTA has not lived up to its expectations in reducing immigration as Hudgins predicted in Figure 1.

When NAFTA was formed ten years ago, hundreds of maquiladora’s were formed (Purvis). Six years after NAFTA was implemented in 1994, maquiladora employment doubled while employment in the rest of Mexico went stale (Faux). Maquiladora’s are factories owned and operated by corporations from other countries in Mexico along the border (Purvis). They allow American corporations to manufacture goods in Mexico and return the goods to the United States – paying taxes only when worth is added to the merchandise (Moss 172). Because corporations are trying to produce goods for as a low a cost as possible, it is much cheaper in the zone near the Mexico-U.S. border because American manufacturers seek the cheap labor Mexico offers. Tijuana and Juarez are examples of cities that experienced population booms after NAFTA was enacted (Purvis). With this increased demand in Mexico for low-skilled workers to create American goods, more Mexicans moved near the border. The workers realized they were being paid low wages compared to the United States. Thus they were inclined to make a short move to the United States to earn a better living.

Because the illegal immigrants do not pay taxes and aren’t insured, when they request education, health care and criminal services, it costs the government even more money. An example of this is the health care system in Los Angeles, California. In Los Angeles, over sixty percent of the patients who are uninsured are illegal immigrants (Fox News). Due to illegal immigrants, the health care system in Los Angeles is considered to be near bankruptcy

Hope that helps you understand immigration more.
