are car alarms even worth installing?

i honestly dont think so. i have a blinking light in my truck. thats good enough. they are so touchy and a pain in the ass

The only this I like about car alarms is the keyless entry. The pager thing is the only thing that I think really can make a difference and about 99 out of 100 times a car alarm goes off it it has nothing to do with a break in.

i've already got one of those remote lock/unlock/panic button things for my car. wish it had a trunk unlocker too. that'd be sweet, yet the Civic has a key lock on the driver's side for the trunk. if i lock it, you can't pull the lever to pop the trunk. kinda sweet.

get one of those car alarms that shock the fuck out of the intruder. I think it requires installing like 5 car batteries for the shock effect. Next, install a small hidden camera with it remoted to your cell phone.

Nobody gives a fuck anymore about alarms. Myself included. back in the 80's it had something special. Hearing that bitch was unusual.

i think there's room under the backseat for that actually. plus the batteries could do double duty and be hooked to the stereo instead of me buying a capacitor, which i'll probably need when i get new subs and amp. something tells me that if i get the subs and amp i want, i'll have the amp pushing out 900watts. i doubt the stock alternator can handle that load on it's own when coupled with 200watts up front and probably another 100 in the rear.

You seem to be taking the fun out of this for yourself by stressing so much. Hide the system well, insure it, and enjoy. Leave the stock deck in the dash, use the stock speaker covers, and completely hide your new shit. No crook is gonna bust in to steal a stock system. Do a good tint job to help your under cover work. You can not see one single peice of my system from out side the car... but the fucker vibrates the plates on my kitchen table from my drive way.

it's the system i'm concened about, not so much the car. who wants to steal a Civic? especially a sedan?

i'm not really stressing. i was thinking about car alarms and decided to post this thread.

the system will be hidden pretty good. my door panels are one piece, so you won't see the 6.5" mids. the tweeters i'm hoping i can get good staging with by placing them in the kick panels. still pretty out of sight.

i'm not using the stock head unit. i have an "old school" Alpine tuner that was top of the line when it came out and still considered to be one of the best that Alpine ever made.

with a complete rebuild of the trunk floor, there's really not going to be a sub "box" to remove. the sub box will be a part of the floor which will be virtually unremovable to someone that doesn't know how it was installed. the amp rack will also be a part of this flooring, and i have a concept in mind where i'd actually make a cabinet for the amps. the cabinet would be locked, thus making getting in there even harder.

do i have some concern over this install? sure do. i'm working with higher end front speakers and an amp to power them. i'm looking to get higher end subs and sub amp to compliment the front speakers (currently going to work with PPI subs and a Kenwood mono amp). higher end equipment = some cause for concern obviously, but i'm not shitting bricks thinking everyone is out to steal my system.

A capacitor? What did ya'll do before the capcitor. My sysytem runs great with 600 watts running 2 subs and the original deck running 4..6.25 speakers and tweeters
