That speech was written by a very expensive script writer then practiced and practiced by an actor.

Of course it was well delivered and well received.

If Arnold ever hopes to be taken seriously, he needs to dump the "Arnoldisms" entirely, or risk becoming a self-parody. He's smart and charismatic enough without that shit. But I thought the "girlie men" crap was nothing short of embarrassing.

The amendment has a minimum residency requirement on it, so it's not as though someone can just waltz in here and run for president.

If a person was born in Canada and moved to the US a week later they couldn't have the opportunity to be US president, even though they've lived their entire life in America.

So what? The President needs to be an American, born in America, raised from birth with American ideals. These ideals are the essence of our country, what makes it what it is. Someone born in a foreign country is indoctrinated with foreign ideals through childhood. Nothing makes a larger impression than the values one was raised with.

An American President should be raised with American values. The idea of weighing the fact that it's "unfair" to immigrants is a joke in comparision to the importance that the President of the United States is the right person.

The founding fathers were cautious, and rightfully so. They didn't have very much faith in the masses, which was one reason behind the Electoral College. They didn't want to see a Brit come over and take the country back.

That fear is no longer a reality. We've got far more American-born candidates to fear than someone like Arnold.

That doesn't even make sense. Just because there are some bad potential American presidents doesn't mean we should open it up to anyone in the world.

What is America about? Many things. Liberty, justice, the pursuit of happiness. And a person born in America, taught these values from birth, through their formative years, is going to hold them most deeply.

Somebody who spend their formative years pledging allegiance to the flag of a country in Europe isn't, and that's reason strong enough for me.

The idea we should change the law to be "fair" to immigrants who want to run for President is the height of silliness.

While we're at it why don't we mandate the CIA start hiring illegal aliens and giving them access to classified info..Who are we to pass the blanket judgment that they might not be qualified or the right person for the job. We should hire them now else we might be called "xenophobic." Forget that there are already enough qualified American citizens, we need to be "fair to everyone."

I think the risk is nonexistent.

An illegal alien has pledged no allegiance to our country, and has not proven their intention to be a functioning part of the nation. That is why an illegal alien could not be a CIA agent.

I can't believe I even addressed that.

However, you assert that someone who comes here and actually goes through the whole process to gain citizenship shouldn't have the same opportunity that someone born here merely through happenstance has? The person born here could've been worshiping Satan and defecating on the American flag in his basement his entire life. And yet he is allowed the opportunity to run for president just because he was born here.

Henry Kissinger was able to become a legendary Secretary of State. But he wasn't born in the US. He spent the first 15 years of his life saluting a German flag, yet that does nothing to diminish the service he gave to this country. So why couldn't an extremely intelligent and fully capable man such as this hold the office of the presidency?
