Because no matter what there is going to be some intrinsic loyalty for the country you were born and grew up in, and that isn't what an American President should possess. The founders knew what they were doing on this one, leave it alone.
As far as equality, fairness to the nation outweighs any concern that immigrants get a "fair shot" at the Presidency.
The amendment has a minimum residency requirement on it, so it's not as though someone can just waltz in here and run for president.
If a person was born in Canada and moved to the US a week later they couldn't have the opportunity to be US president, even though they've lived their entire life in America.
The founding fathers were cautious, and rightfully so. They didn't have very much faith in the masses, which was one reason behind the Electoral College. They didn't want to see a Brit come over and take the country back.
That fear is no longer a reality. We've got far more American-born candidates to fear than someone like Arnold.

lol yeah that was bad. What was worse was hearing him try to say Washington in the sentence preceding that.

This is crap and you know it.
There was no "need" for an amendment for 228 years............until another actor shows up.
Just call it the 'Arnold Outsourcing End of America Amendment.' That way the dumbies will understand what they are getting.
So you're just another leftist that doesn't actually believe in equality?
There was no "need" because social norms dictated that a foreign born candidate would never have a chance. Now the country is more openminded and accepting of its citizens.

the excerpts I've read from the speech..The highlights if you will, really didn't seem to make any sense. For instance there's the one part where he was saying how as an immigrant you can be anything you want to be in the USA and that's *"why I believe in this party and why I believe in the president!*". Just didn't make any sense.
There was something else I read also but I forget what it was an am not going to run downstairs to grab the paper.
I just think the only people who were wowed by the speech were people who wanted to be wowed. Big difference between style and substance.
That's because the Republican ideal of every man having the ability to lift himself up by his bootstraps is foreign to you. You have the opportunity to be anything you want when the government isn't restricting your abilities. Don't leave out the part where he says, "One thing I learned about America is that if you work hard and play by the rules, this country is truly open to you."
He didn't say, "One thing I learned about America is that you can half ass it, shoot out a few kids, and have the government (fellow citizens) pay your bill."
