Any SCUBA divers here?

I have wanted to do this forever but have always said "maybe later". After being at Seaworld and the beaches in San Diego a few weeks ago I am seriously considering it. I looked into classes and it isn't even close to being as expensive as I thought it would be. $200 includes the books and study guides, all the equipment, 36 hours of classes and pool time. After that all is needed is the dives to get a cert card and I am good to go.

Any divers got any advice for me? I know I will probably buy my own equipment so that is another $150. One of the schools I called does a 4 day package at Catalina Island for $590, all inclusive. So I figure for a grand or so I can be licensed and ready to hit the ocean.

Four days, do you end up with a ticket after that?

One guy I knew took a 4 or 5 day course in Trinidad and ended up getting burned when he realized the ticket was bogus.

Buying your equipment before you take the course is definitely a bonus, in my opinion - so long as you'll dive quite often. I didn't buy my own and had to use a ratty old wetsuit with a hole around the bag area. It wasn't too bad until we hit about 150 feet. I obtained a drysuit shortly after - but I guess it all depends on where you'll be diving. I was diving in B.C in December.

Good luck, RD, you'll love it.

I would wait to buy your equipment until after you get certified. Some people don't like diving others do. So you don't want to buy it before you know you like it.

But it is a BLAST!!!

i'm just an ole laid back, old fashioned, relaxed, calm, MUFF diver bro.......however, would like to scuba dive
