Any of you guys catch hell for being strict on diets?

I gotta say since I've been on a high cal/protein diet with cleaner foods I've made some massive gains in the past few weeks. Done in 2 weeks what it took me 3 months to do eating like crap. I'm not about to go off track and start eating fast food and sugar crap at the dinner table.

My family gathers for dinner 3 or 4 nights a week, I don't live at home but in the same town. Seems like they are all trying to cram CRAP down my throat every freakin night. I don't eat the desert, no home made salad dressing, no white rice, no cake, french fries...ect. Stick to the chicken, steak, and fish. It seems to really offend whoever made it that I won't eat whatever random dish they made. It has turned into the discussion of the night about how "weird" I am for not trying the aunts coconut pie. They think I'm a cat because I eat tuna out of the can without mayo...or reading labels and drinking milk all day.

Might be a stupid topic, I just thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone has had similar experiences.

No it's not a stupid topic. It can be a very real problem for some people. I remember reading in the big official elite write up on Bunny how she ate clean even on Thanksgiving and I admired that so much.

Some families, (most Greek families!), can take home cooking very seriously. It's no different from when you go over to your boy's apartment and everyone wants to order dominos. Just do the best to

a) ignore the peer pressure by remembering your GOALS
b) carry healthy alternatives with you (protein shakes, almonds, granola, tupperwared food, etc.) that can aid you in making the right decision.

When lifestyles collide. If it does anything for you, I don't live anywhere near my family and havent' in 20 yrs. I STILL can't discuss diet w/ my mom w/o her getting upsdet. I also lost a whole lotta friends when I started competing. I generally save a cheat day for I do go out w/ friends or a social event. Otherwise I just don't go out - which made me appear pretty damn anti-social.

I generally make all my own food & carry it w/ me each day to work, and rarely go out for lunch - which tends to isolate me from the social aspect of work. But I prefer it - I usually feel like shit after eating out.

When I am stuck, I usually check the menu for offerings that fit my diet and will ask if they can grill or put stuff on the side, etc.

When its family it can be really hard tho. I guess you could ask of they could make meals where there are choices or that you can start w/ the basic chicken or beef or whatever and people can put on whatever they want (or not). Also you could offer to make some parts of the meal - for ex - homemade dressing - I do my own -- extra virgin olive oil is a good fat source - throw in some vinegar and some spices and you are set.

Well, we're not "normal" when it comes to eating. Your family wants you to be "normal." In my family, protein powder=steroids and my mother gives me comments about being too lean because "your ribs are showing." The people around you will get used to it......

Its tough for me to. I know when I go over my grandparents house they are going to try to feed me to death( damn italians ) And Im always worried shes taking offense that im not eating her cooking but you do what you gotta do. I just tell her its because of my diet.

i do at work alot.. people think i go averboard about being healthy

i think people are very intimidated by those of us who eat healthy. it makes them feel like they are doing something wrong and the best way for them to deal with it is to say things about it. it's funny because anytime i am around someone for any period of time (long enough to see their eating habits) i can't help but to wonder how the fuck they can do that to themselves. example.....my old boss man gets up for breakfast...eats 3 donuts, a pastry, and washes it down with a mountain dew.....and although it disgusts me i never say anything because honestly i could give a fuck.

I catch a lot of crap at work for all the supplements I take and the foods I eat. I get a lot of "steroid" talk eventhough I'm natural. Its kinda funny, but the fat people all really respect what I'm doing and ask questions and such. Its the skinny people that talk crap all the time.

I just learned to deal with it and the comments eventually slowed down. I still hear about it once or twice a week still...

Gf wants to go out and eat all the time. Or just go out which I love to do but then I catch hell for never getting drunk with her.
