This isn't meant to make anyone look bad, point the finger, etc. Just an explanation because I know how curious I get when shit goes down.
I was banned last night for about 3 hours, you could also call it a timeout, although my user title said BANNED and the person who banned me said "BYE!" But that really isn't important.
What lead to this?
I have a thread titled "End of Faith" in which some controversial topics are discussed, mainly religious ones. Lots of people have strong feelings on it and any religious or political discussion on this board can be viewed as a powder keg and all of us are running around with lit torches.
Out of nowhere, another mod jumped on the thread caling me a variety of profane names for really no reason except that he didn't agree with some of my views.
I responded back with an equally rude response, I didn't know the user so I fired back with the best flames I had at my disposal, one of which was accusing him of being a source, seemed like a good idea at the time but it was not, its one thing to berate someone, but bringing in the idea of the person being a source could have serious repercussions for the user, the site, etc. Especially given all the bad press that steroids get and what not. I wouldn't take back the original post, as it was simply a response to this user's original post, but I wouldn't have included any accusations of being a source.
Some time later another moderator came online and saw my post. The person I was flaming was also a moderator and a friend of this moderator. He edited my post, but allowed the original post from the moderator to stand. This post said things like "you are a pussy" and a "miserable bitch."
I was furious, my post was edited and I was given a warning, yet the original post to which i was only responding was left untouched.
I immediately (without thinking) made a post directed towards this moderator questioning his actions, throwing in some insults, telling him to get lost. A bit of poor judgement on my part, I was lived and pulled a "act first, think later" that I am sure some of you are familiar with. I'd handle it differently if given the chance next time and I have personally apologized to that moderator for the public nature of my "call out."
A site admin logged in and reversed the timeout/ban,and PMed me to explain the whole deal. I emailed both mods in question and straightened things out with them, and here I am today.
