Last night I was driving home on an ice laden Long Island road and my car skidded out, did a wonderful 720, and then finally came to stop in a snow embankment, several inches from a telephone pole striking the driver side door and probably knocking my ass out.
A police officer just happened to be coming in the other direction at the exact same time. He wrote out an accident report and had my car towed. I tried calling my cars roadside assistance people but he said "No, we make the calls, not you" -- which I found pretty Nazi-like. Why should I have to pay $75 to have my car towed when the maker will tow it for free?
Anyway, since he wrote an accident report do I have to report this to the insurance company? Do the police automatically send it to the insurance agency?
And if so, how do insurance companies respond to this sort of incident, where it's not a crash, it's a weather related accident?
Thanks.
