AAS with Atkins like diet

Alright, I am new to this so don't laugh me off the page...

I am a 6-year diabetic with less than stellar glycemic control and severe insulin resistance. I have tried alot of drugs and insulin shots to no avail. I have recently lost alot of weight with an Atkins-like diet and exercise, contributing to improved glycemic control. I am now at a nice starting point to begin rebuilding my once (I Think) impressive physique. I am 6'2" and 200 lbs, little remaining bodyfat. I am on a moderate lifting routine. My theory is that by adding significant lean muscle mass, I will greatly enhance my glycemic control (muscles utilize glucose much more efficiently than fat and/or protein as an energy source). And the faster the better, in my opinion. My question is this: I have heard that the ketosis resulting from this type of diet is actually catabolic. Will I still benefit from AAS? Will I still gain strength and size without carbs? Could anyone recommend a good diet or training schedule for this condition?

Any help would be appreciated.

A.A.S works best with a high calorie intake, but a low carb ckd type diet may work well for you.I would look into a ckd diet, if you do a search on the diet board, mr.x has a number of good posts or go to mesomorph.net and look at mr.x's diets.

HM: I think your on the right track. Personally I loose alot of muscle on tkd and not so bad on ckd. I think a CKD with a light test/tren would help you loose a ton of weight and maintain or slightly improve strenght. Tren works in magic ways with fat loss (fonz can explain that). Good luck

First, I would like to priase your highly beneficial step forward to fix your health. I'm assuming you have Type II diabetes, for this situation at least.

To answer you questions: Ketosis is catabolic, you are correct, but not catabolic in the mannerism that you are familiar with. Ketosis is largely based on low-blood sugar and the release of glucagon - which breaks down liver glycogen for use in the body afterwhich it can, to a degree, breakdown stored fat to be used as energy. However, glucagon is a catabolic homone by medical standards, yet in this case, as you see, it's not catabolic to the muscle - which is your concern. The only thing that can come close to catabolism is the gluconeogenisis - breakdown of some amino acids for energy- that can happen in the first few days of Ketosis (which will not be your concern for you've been in ketosis for a while). At that state, after a few days, the dietary protein intake will replace the protein (about 20-30g) that was being extracted from stored. Thus, Ketosis, overall, will not be as catabolic as you think , as long as proper guidelines are followed.

AAS can be beneficial while in Ketosis, I have seen times where Diabetes patitents (athletes) have gained strenght by using AAS and proper dieting techniques. So, you would be well of doing that. I would suggest minimal AS, maybe around 200-300mg of Primo a week, or 30-40mg of anavar ED.

As far as diet, you are already getting good results w/ the diet and training you have (from what I see). I would suggest sticking to the plan, for why change something that works.
