Did anyone catch 60 Minutes tonight? I guess they had a story about a teenager who was using steroids and apparently killed himself. I didn't see it, but my dad did, and it prompted him to call me and ask me if I was "on". Haha anyway, anyone see it and can explain what it was about?

severe depression due to no natural test after cessation of cycle and then realizing it was all water he had gained not really muscles and that all the stealing and raging he had done was for nothing other than to fill his muscles up with water :mix:

i guess north america's biggest problem is steroids eh? :rolleyes: i can't believe they devoted air-time to this. the story is tragic, but pinning the blame on his steroid use is specious reasoning at best.
 
He was just a kid. Being an adolescent is difficult enough, without adding steroids to the mix. Placing blame, of course, is never fruitful. He might very well have ended up suffering depression without ever having used. But it is true that people can suffer depression post-cycle, while their natural test production is suppressed...in aging men this can happen naturally, and some psychiatrists are smart enough to identify it and prescribe HRT.

Kids should not be using steroids, and this story is just more evidence of that.

What sucks for responsible adult users, though, is that this boy's death is going to be turned into propaganda to vilify all AAS use.

Suicide claims more adolescents than any disease or natural cause. Adolescents now commit suicide at a higher rate than the national average of all ages. The rate of adolescent suicide in adolescent males has tripled between 1960 and 1980. Suicide rates for adolescent females have increased between two to three fold. There have been striking increases in suicidal behaviors among African American males, Native American males and children under 14. Much of the increase can be accounted for by deaths due to guns.

adolescent suicide is nothing out of the ordinary. Only difference is that the
teen in the CBS story was using AS. The fact that this teenager was using
AS is about as relevant as he was eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Its unfortunate that this kid lost his life but #1 he was too young to probably know what he was doing. Unfortunately his parents want to create a crusade
against steroids because they feel like it will compensate for their bad
parenting.

Oh and the kids friend that was in the video on the website is a dork.

I think this is incorrect. I read a post a while back where someone claiming to be a doctor said he regularly injected 10cc of air into a vein to check for a certain heart problems. I pretty sure i've read this similiar practice in other articles and posts. I don't plan on testing this out anytime soon though. I wouldn't want to inject anything into a vein. Aspirate !

Actually one of our members Geogarff was a cardiac profusionist, often he would inject 3ccs of air into an artery to check problems associated with the heart!

i saw this story and i gotta admit if i was a little less educated i would have seen roids as totally evil. the media needs a good hook to sell a story, even 60 minutes, and AAS make a great villian.

it was sad to see the parents dealing with the grief of losing their beloved son, but there was a lot 60 minutes could not possibly know about this kid. how do we know this kid did not suffer from depression BEFORE he starting using (obviously, by his sides) test? could these parents have had their heads in the sand all along? they saw their kid as the perfect little high school baseball star. maybe he was just an unhappy kid with a dad that pressured him into producing on the field. who knows.

post cycle depression can be pretty bad for some due to other factors in their lives... you can never really blame one thing
 
I saw the report on 60 minutes and what basically happened was, the kid was a head case, under all the stress of being a teen, etc. and roiding and raging, so his parents sent him to a psychologist. So this stupid bitch diagnoses depression, and tells him to quit the AAS immediately, and starts him on lexipro. So the guy got no decent PCT and was put on brain medicine to counter the pre-existing depression, and then the post-cycle crash. Shortly thereafter he committed suicide. So naturally the psychologist when interviewed by 60 minutes laid the blame directly on the steroids.

Thus we see the effect of demonization of steriods, medical professionals do not know how to handle these situations when they arise. Ignorance on everyone's part. Of course he should not have used them to begin with, but sadly the medical help brought in to help the kid, failed miserably. Why 60 minutes did not address this obvious point, well I guess this was not the agenda for the story.

That was a sad story. A young confused kid with emotional problems taking too many drugs that he knew nothing about just to play baseball for the local high school. What a waste, especially when everyone knew what was going on and he still didn't get the help/support he needed. RIP

Mental instability or depression are never a good mix with any drugs. It could have been Flintstone vitamins and the parents would be looking to point a finger, and take some of the blame of their consciences. I think that they definitely had an effect on the guy, but he had major problems before he started using.

Oh, I dunno. I think this is rather typical of 60 minutes. Sensationalism always sells no matter how accurate it may or may not be.
 
My wife and I watched that last night. It was sad on a few levels.

1) The needless death of a young teenaged boy
2) The perpetuation of the "roid rage" myth via eye witness testimony from the experts, namely the girlfriend and her parents and psychologist.
3) A psychiatrist so phenominially ignorant of the effects of ending a cycle of AAS as to not prescribe appropriate PCT and relied on the typical psycho-drugs. (not derogitorily intentional) It could be argued that this sudden drop of AAS by recommendation of that doctor directly contributed to the depression and resultant suicide.
4) A "plea" for why isn't anyone "doing" anything about this problem.
5) The manipulation by 60 minutes to present the argument that steroids caused the death of this young man because he wanted to be like his MLB idols.

It's a national epidemic acauze of I sawed it on 60 minutes and it's widespread all over our schools and sports! And that thar roid rage is a horrible horrible thing. Oh, and another thing before I put away my soap box. This kind of blue journalism is why I hold out little to no hope of the other program described in another thread is going to be put together any better. I fully expect the normal lemming journalism the US public is accustomed to.
 
Depression and low testosterone in a young teen will do it. Just imagine one month ur fucking ur girl like no tomorrow pthen the next u can't even get it hard. To a kid this could me the end of the world and then not allowed to go out the kid flipped and it's sign that u need to be mentally prepared for juice. It's just like how many ppl here tripped on acid as a kid and knew a few kids who couldn't handle it and lost it. He wasn't mentally prepared for the ups and downs associted with juice. I persoanlly know a guy who juiced senior year in a NJ highschool did alot of juice got huge and a few years later couldn't hard anymore detrsoye his thyroid and now the poor dude is 5'10 and close to 350 or so and obese. In highschool he was around 180 or 190 and no where near fat. Well now the guy takes around 20 xanax bars a day along with a slew of other shit.... No one knows how much more this guy can live and survive like this.. Juice wil fuck u up if ur not mentally strong.
 
The other thing that had me a bit ampy was that they told how the son came to the mother and pleaded with her to not ground him. That he would sign a contract, blah blah blah. The mother said she'd had enough and that he'd be grounded. So he reached out and grabbed her arm squeezing it, then went and committed suicide.

Things like that are very sad indeed. You'll find hundreds of more examples of this kind of things with kids and alchohol, and drugs. It's on TV so much, it's almost numbing to where it's not even noticeable. However, that isn't the smokescreen dejour. Right now it's AAS and the presidents crusade on them. Just ignore the man, meaning drugs and alchohol, behind the curtain...

i cant believe he had that much air in a needle...i asked a docter how much air would need to be in the needle for me to have a heart attack and it would ave to be over 2 cc's in a young person 3cc's no question you are dead...in older people like 60 and above it is very dangerous to have an air whatsoever...anyway...he would have also had to inject it directly into a MAJOR vein which usually run close to the skin(arms and legs)...which means he injected it like a heroin user would...and we all know the point is to stick that thing in the muscle and ASPIRATE the needle in case we do hit a minor vein....very odd....research research research and when you are done researching just research some more so this crap doesnt happen
 
This was a perfect story for the media...Bush addresses the people about steroids in sports and what a problem it is, then you have all the media hype around bonds and BALCO. Now you can throw in this story of a young boy wanting to be "Bonds-like" who uses gear, flips his lid and kills himself.

insert sarcasm here ---> Obviously everykid who sees bonds and loves baseball will now use steroids and eventually flip out and kill himself. How many of our children must die before we address this epidemic.

The next 60 minutes will be about a gay guy who marries a steroid user and then he himself uses and flips out an kills himself thus leading to the conclusion that both steroids and gay marriages are at epidemic proportions.

It is ridiculous...I'm half-hoping crack makes a comeback so steroids can take the back burner.

The media always needs a good topic to report on which will keep viewers watching. Aside from the elections, these past few weeks its been steroids. Hell, even ESPN is making a big deal out of it. Two things will happen, 1) the public will get sick of it and forget about it or 2) harsher legislation will be passed (don't know how much more harsh they can get tho!) Pretty much safe to say pro-hormones such as 1-ad and 1-test will be banned by the end of the year.
 
The boy was a total fuckup before he used the roids. He stole from his own parents before he even had the gear.

Those parents are in denial, they are more responsible for his death than the gear he took.

Also the doctors ignorence didn't help either.
 
That doctor's ignorance contributed to the depression by putting him in a position to quit where he was without giving him some form of PCT. In true head-quack fashion, dishes out different drugs. Legally of course.
 
He was a depressed teenager. I really feel bad for him cause I know where he was coming from. Its hard to deal with those feelings at that age. You just want to be alone most of the time because you feel the whole world is against you but you forced into a viscious social ring ( parents, friends, teachers ), that makes it seem like you cant escape from. At that age you feel like everyone wants to control you, you have no control over youre own life. The thought of suicide starts feeling more appealing. You have no responsibilities , no kids, no wife, no one depending on you, nothing to look forward to ( in the mind of a depressive ). Ending at this point is easy.

Once again this story had nothing to do with AS. Maybee if it was about the pill game that most psychiatrists play, it would have been much more relevant.

Here is a line I have heard quite a few times from psychatrists:
"This field is more trial and error than it is of evaluation and treatment. Something that works for someone else might work differently for you."

Like everyone said. He was small, took juice got a little bigger, had problems and went to a physchiatrisit. Supposedly got off the stuff argued again with mom. Hung himself because he was depressed and could not live up to expectations. Empathy for the story but no sympathy.
 
I saw it and they media was again assholes. They guy mentioned that after the kid killed himself the parents later found a bottle of "HARDCORE" steriods wrapped up in cloth in drawer. Yep that is right not just any steriod but HARDCORE. Please WTF. Nandrolone. then they tried to blame the coaches and the school system for influencing because the coaches decideds who plays and doesn't. First off I think that is bullshit it you take gear the responsibilities are on you and only you not mom and dad and school and the coach. People don't do enough research they think well I need to get big so in order to get big I need steroids and they don't do any research and just start popping pills and sticking their ass when in fact they have no Idea of sides and signs how to manage estrogen or even comprhend the fact that there is a PCT. I get pissed off at the fact that people can be some dumb and not research to see what they are doing. They just want the quick fix and it is them and their abuse that pushed it to controlled substance and forced good responsible bros with knowledege passing a plateau to break the law and sneak around. If he never took juice he prolly would not have had to see a friggin phsyc and not to mention all the other sides a TEENAGER can get from spiking/dropping test levels. I wouldn't say any of the above if he had been over 18. But this KID was 16 cmon gentleman. If you knew him personally would have layed out his cycle for him? The teenager that is? If you answer yes then your the reason as the guy who sold him the juice is the reason y we are all getting fucked when we want to use aas responsibly as adults. Lets not beat around the bush bro he juiced lost his marbles and now he's gone. It wasn't a car accident he didn't drown he took his own life. AAS aren't bad when used properly and when they are understood.

The issue I have with this is that there isn't evidence that his suicide was caused by AAS. Yes, he used AAS. He also stole from his parents. He also lied to his parents. He was also grounded, and PLEADED with his mother to not ground him. She refused and so he killed himself. So, now are you going to go blame his mother for his suicide because she REFUSED to not ground him? Which spurious correlation would you like to attribute for your own convenience?

Gentleman i am not one for arguing or confrontation but would advise ur 16 yold brother or cousin to do a cycle of test/dbol etc... In no way am i bashing the use in adults but in our youth cmon. What if this was ur kid.

Why would I disagree with that? Anything you take into your body changes you one way or another. Just as lying, stealing, etc will change you mentally, emotionally and personally. Not to mention the changes physically and mentally he was already going through as a young man.

Having said that, it's still doesn't establish correlation of his choice in taking his own life with any of the changes going on in his life at the time. The conclusion that AAS was the "cause" is what I'm challenging.

It is a shame that he went that way. AAS are the cause of many things. This young man was a teenager and I don't agree with underdeveloped men taking AAS. I think he had problems prior to AAS. AAS may have pushed him over the edge. Just as he made the dicision to take his life he made the decision to take steroids. The was a lot twirling around in this youngsters head and he had no answers for them then he tried to answer with AAS and discovered that they weren't even the right answer he was looking for and therefore he became even more confused and decided that there was no way out and the only way was to leave on his own accord. obviously he was suffering from depression prior to AAS and that is probably what drove him to the use and ultimately drove him to the ground that was the ULTIMATE cause. His condition not AAS they were only a part of it.
