Yeah, some fat guy is gonna do a double bodyweight bench press one day.

Half a joke with a serious aspect to it also. We're already seeing triple bodyweight benches. Nonetheless, the 800 and change pound benches are getting all the publicity. Don't get me wrong, they're all impressive! Follow me?MULE1 said:

But kaz did it flat back, paused it on his chest for three seconds, and no bench shirt. Plus he was doinf that weight for reps in the gym. Also that was before his strength prime. He tore his pec in the bar bend in wsm. If he didn't he woul have benched 800 raw imo. Nobody is stronger today than kaz was.louden_swain said:Of course its possible!!!
In the early 1980s the world record was 661.
Athletes are bigger and stronger.

Seriously though........I can see it happening. The equipment is getting here so we just need a dedicated big man to wear it.

Yup. That's what I was thinking. There is a limit. Just because it's rapidly increasing doesn't mean that's going to continue.dragon14 said:I think it is possible... but not as easy as some might think. The weight has gone up a lot in last 20 years for sure. But at some point you start to reach the limits of human (even enchanced) potential. Think of the 4-minute mile. It took forever to break it, and although the times have decreased quite a bit... aint nobody running a 3-minute mile.
slobberknocker said:The thing about Mendelson, that guy is ripped. I always wondered why he wouldn't get up to like 350-370 and be a little less lean. What did he weigh when he hit 875, like 320?
Tiervexx, Kaz's old routine was a 10 week cycle. Core lifts started high rep and cycled down. Other lifts remained high rep throughout. Squat AND dead were trained twice a week, one right after the other. He did speed deads and speed squats. Volume was pretty high. 6 days/week for 2 hours with little rest between sets.

Doug K said:People,
having personal contact with some of the absolute strongest men in the world, I can assure you 1000 will go sooner than you may like to think.
I can't say who, yet, but so far in training, the deadlift record has already been passed!!!!!!!!!
Do I hate it? Yes and No.
A 1000lb bench sure makes a 1000lb squat not seem so impressive, but on the otherhand, if they are using Karin's shirt then I'm happy as a clam!
I do see a 1200lb squat soon also.![]()
WalkingBeast said:With all the supportive gear giving benchers 160+ pounds over thier raw bench, and the fact that the gear will probabally get stronger it wouldnt surprise me at all. Id like to see a 1000lb raw bench though. Not sure that will ever happen.

I don't know about that. I'm not sure how far I can really go. I think I can physically go to 900, but beyond that, who knows?
Remember, I'm natural. I really don't think I can gain a whole lot more strength.
BodybuildingUniverse said:
an 810 bench and natural?? holy shit dude. Havent you ever wondered "what if?" as far as the high strength supps? Any plans to maybe take a shot at the USAPL records wearing something like the fury? Not sure what the Mens record is for your weight class but it sure seems like you'd have a shot at it if you are truly drug free.
just curious, what do your other lifts look like? I know you're a specialist

I am natural, but I really don't like the USAPL. Kinda snobby, and their claim of drug free is crap--they have just as many guys on the stuff as anywhere.
I have wondered what if, but then my bench will jump another 20 pounds and I think, hell, I don't need any help.
thebrute said:oh and i heard mendy(on the other boards)hit 930ish in training..so its fuckin possible!! tb
Mythicalbeing said:With new materials synthetics, and technology this will eventually be a do-able thing.
Lat said:Yeah, I have done 800 and 810. Thanks!
I think within 2 years 1000 will fall. There are guys out there benching mid-700's raw. I can get over 200 out of my shirt, and I think there is more there if I learn to find it.
eurorides said:what do you think the max natural bench is/can be?

Quoting Nate from another board:****************************************************
Q: Scot, what is the most you have bench pressed?
Awithout a moments pause) 1005.
discussing weight and such, he mentioned that adding 15lbs of bodyweight equated to about 130 lbs on his bench.
so if he competed and did 875, later added 15lbs not concerned with weight, he got 1005.
****************************************************
We got to meet him at the FIT Expo in Pasadena this past February. He held a bench seminar in a very intimate setting...took a lot of notes!
Here we are with him after the seminar...

And here is a t-shirt I bought from the expo...

femlifter said:Yes, Scot Mendelson would have hit 1000 this year, but his shirt blew open like a granade into bits and pieces with 969. He came back a few minutes later and missed the lockout by an inch in a meet in March, 2 weeks after the Arnold. The bench shirts aren't made strong enough to handle that heavy of a weight, but they are working to modify their designs to help him. He will hit 1000 next year. I, along with several Powerlifting USA staff, have seen him easily bench 965 in training.
WalkingBeast said:Respectable lift, no doubt. But I still have more respect for a raw bench without extreme supportive gear to make the lift. When supportive gear is adding 300lbs to your bench, I wouldnt consider the feat too legit anymore. It seems the supportive gear has to be built stronger so that the lift can be done. Id much rather see how much someone can raw bench, pause or not. Sure it takes some work to get the most out of the supportive gear, but it takes a shitload more work to add 300lbs to your bench without the gear.
Nonerz said:Not to dis you...but whatever!
Respectable lift? That's an understatement.
Legit? Not sure if you understand the powerlifting world at all. He's a powerlifter...powerlifters use supportive gear. It's just like any other sport - you use the equipment necessary for optimal performance. His raw bench is no joke either...see for yourself!

Lots of good vids here...I particularly like how his wife smacks the shit out of him before he lifts!![]()
Sorry if I came off a bit abrasive, but since I've gotten into the sport, I've learned soooo much and realize that your equipment is just one piece of the puzzle...the work is still done in the gym!
