I am natural, but I really don't like the USAPL. Kinda snobby, and their claim of drug free is crap--they have just as many guys on the stuff as anywhere.

agreed, there but if you can go in an beat em and set a world record in the heavies being truly drug free I'd love to see it happen. Raise the bar for em man!

Quoting Nate from another board:****************************************************
Q: Scot, what is the most you have bench pressed?
A:(without a moments pause) 1005.

discussing weight and such, he mentioned that adding 15lbs of bodyweight equated to about 130 lbs on his bench.

so if he competed and did 875, later added 15lbs not concerned with weight, he got 1005.

We got to meet him at the FIT Expo in Pasadena this past February. He held a bench seminar in a very intimate setting...took a lot of notes!

Here we are with him after the seminar...

And here is a t-shirt I bought from the expo...

It will be done.
Id like to see some serious deadlift numbers move up though. The record for this lift has been stuck for ages.
It will be a sad day when the WR for bench surpasses the WR Deadlift, and starts getting close to the squat record :S

can we see those notes? ;)

cut and paste....

of course nani had to wear her bad very bad shirt
bad...very bad!

I sat there taking notes! I can't rely on my memory for much so here are a few things I got out of the seminar:

*Never think about the weight you're lifting. It's a DONE DEAL!

"I'm out there and I'm gonna kill ya" -- regarding his frame of mind during a meet.

Benching w/equipment - imaginary bubble...find the peak of the bubble and stay in it.

He works rear delts every workout...suggested Forza rear delt machine (1 armed)

Reccomends Hammer Curls (builds forearm strength)

He always trains 80-100%

Talked about the mind to muscle link

Does A LOT of stretching...stretches throughout the day

Takes Body Quick - makes your neurons fire faster (I bought a bottle to try ($40 at the show)...just read an article about this stuff in Powerlifting USA...sounds very interesting)

Doesn't believe in bands & chains for bench because joints are smaller...thinks they are great for squat/dl work.

Does lots of close grip bar work and cable extensions

Does 2 board presses only...said that the shirt takes care of the 1 board range.

Said that many times body builders are like "Ferrari's with no motors" -- note: one of his teammates is a body builder :)

Train your nervous system to handle heavey weights

Reccomends MSM, glutamine (didn't write down all the stuff...but kept it pretty basic)

"I'm here for performance"
*************************************
An overall great guy...you can tell he loves his family. He made several references to his wife and how she is a very important part of his team. "It's not right if she's not there." He's a no frills kinda guy! They are opening a gym in LA in a few weeks...WOO-HOO!!! :)

Very interesting.

So his idea of a good bench workout is to work up to a few lifts that are very close to max (any idea how much volume he does?)

work tricepts with close grips and extensions.

always do some rear delt work.

Stretch a lot. I used to stretch all the time but I guess I should start again.

with todays amazing science i wouldnt be surprised 1200 pounds in the next 10 years.
