Anyone who knows me knows I hate this nasty ass drug. It kills libido, causes mood swings, lessens gains and destroys HDL. So why do people use it? Well, about 20 years ago, it was realized that excessive steroids aromatize. Nolvadex is an ESTROGEN that would complete with this excess aromatization and block some of its effects. It was a very crude approach, but it was all that we had.
Another problem with Nolvadex was the fact that no one really knew what it was doing. In cases where excess aromatization wasn't taking place, it actually ADDED estrogen. Yet, people took it indiscriminately and moron message board gurus reccommened it as a "precaution." Unbelievably dumb. I'm proud to say that I have helped dispell that notion, though it wasn't met without some dissention
I've always felt that if Nolvadex was needed, you were simply doing too much gear. Just take less. Fuck, Arnold and Zane and Oliva didn't have Nolva and they weren't bloated and they didn't have gyno.
But here's the bitch -- the one thing that AMAZES me to this day.
Today, there are things called ANTI AROMATASES!!! (Yeah, I know -- big fucking news flash). They essentially stop the formation of estrogen at the root. Doesn't that make more sense?
But the myth continues. It rues my existence. People still believe Nolva is the way to go and they still believe it helps in recovery. It does not.
Between the proper use of either arimidex and aromasan and supplements like POST CYCLE and Sustain, estrogen can be kept at bay 100% of the time. (Unless you're ultra sensitive and simply do TOO MUCH aromatizing compounds).
I'm reluctant to say Nolvadex sucks because there are those who feel it works for them and they think I'm just voicing an opposing opinion. But...NOLVADEX SUCKS. (In my opinion).
This has been said before and the arguement will continue to rage. The thing is...I know of no one who used dex and supps correctly and went back to Nolvadex. It's one of those things that people have leaned on -- like a lucky charm. But IMO, it has no place in the modern bodybuilders arsenal.
