i'm hoping they'd make such an impact that peeps would view me as godly and i'd only have to slay a handful as a statement of my badassness. so i'd have a healthy reserve for many years...every so often i'd blast a few fools just to let the guineas know what time it is/was/and will be

A text on metallurgy...I made gunpowder with my Christmas present science kit in fifth grade....that info is already in my brain but I don't know much about metallurgy. I could build a power base with my knowledge and science would be highly advanced...there would be no religion or limited religion. Knowing how a steam engine works is more important than a weapon....the possibilities...
Its weird how in some ages knowledge just overflowed, in others their time was cloaked in not knowing.
We still live in an age of not knowing. Our knowledge is extremely limited now.
I could go on, but shit that would be pointless.

It was specified you could take one item. A bible would get you crucified and you ain't Jeebus...a hooker would be a bad idea, slavery was rampant....it would be a bad market. Finally, you would be better off with the ability to start the heroin industry with the poppies and knowledge as opposed to only having the refined product and a limited supply.

When I was 16 the idea of jumping into Dr. Who's TARDIS with no idea of where I'd end up or if I'd ever come home, was cool. I have people and a lifestyle I care about now that I'd have to think long and hard about leaving

Actually, javaguru's idea of a text in metallurgy would be the best item for the time frame. Could you imagine Rome with the ability to repeatably make blade tool steels? Your average barbarian would be fuct.

Yeah, well, my parents didn't love me enough to give me a chemistry kit (would have been wasted on me anyway, I don't have a brain to learn that shit) when I was little so everything I've ever learned about making gunpowder I learned on Star Trek (original series, episode #19).
