Do you know a junkie personally?

Let's see, I have three friends that are cocaine addicts, one of them is a junkie. He's lost everything, his long time GF, one of his cars, one of his homes, multiple jobs, and has been arrested for possession a number of times in the last few months. He's waiting to be sentenced. The other two are functional, but I can't stand to be around them.

I have an issue with booze. I'd binge drink when I'd go out, and would drink every day. I wouldn't get wasted, but would definitely not be sober. I could probably count on one hand the number of days I wouldn't drink in a year over the last few years. I went 8 months without drinking anything, had a few last weekend and didn't have any fun with it. It's tough though, I could see myself slipping back into the habit of daily drinking again. It keeps me numb.

whats the big deal? if hes still willing to do the activities you wanna do, why does it bother you for him to bring around his flask?

unless all hes willing to do is go to bars and such

because it's going to kill his liver and it can be dangerous especially if he is driving. nobody wants to be around somebody who is always drinking. work at a club for awhile and sooner or later you want to smack the shit out of people.

True. I was drinking too much, but it was never all day or before I'd go and do normal shit like a movie. One of my friends is like that. Go see a matinee on a Saturday or whatever and he has a pint of booze he's pouring into his soda.

My aunt used to have this guy living with her who was a bad alcoholic. He would have pints of blackberry brandy hidden between the couch cushions and had a cold 18 pack of high life on the table and would drink it all before it was warm. His name was Wade but I called him Swade cause he would stagger and sway after 12 beers and a pint. We got him to do some bong hits once out of my 3ft Jerry Bear bong.

I don't personally - I know of, I worked with one (briefly but not brief enough) but none in my personally circle.

I don't have a lot of patience for certain types of addictions - well, most addictions - could be a character flaw in me but somewhere in the DNA I lack the sympathy gene for junkies if there is one.

There is a world of diffrence between meeting a junkie, and meeting a beautiful person who then degenerates.

But I stopped feeling sorry for my friend after a while. It was still her fault after all. She was raised in a good situation but went WAY the hell out of her way to ruin it.

Then again...I guess it is the same thing in the end.

they can't control their addiction..

Generally I don't bump old, old threads but I feel the need to update because this isn't quite true. I got back in touch with the friend I spoke of on this thread and we're closer than ever. Once she decided that harder drugs where not worth it, she basically just stopped and has been clean for 21 months without any nutty 12 step programs or whatever.

Her motor control and speech is damaged but over email she comes off as totally normal and as shape as ever. She also still looks very youthful and healthy even though her movement is awkward.

I know two addicts, one the stripper I was seeing early in the summer who is totally clean now.
The second is my long time friend who is a straight up junkie, but has some money so gets by. I saw him go through serious cocaine pyschosis the other night though. Not sure how long he will last on the streets acting like that.
