british, smittish...i assume you have a functioning set of ears...that alone should be enough of a preclusion.

Led Zeppelin are the pioneers of Heavy Metal. Then Van Halen picked up where Zep left off... Everyone after that emulated these two bands one way or another.

black sabbath, led zepplin and deep purple are generally hailed as the original heavy metal bands.

You do have a solid point bro. I been around guitarists for 20 some odd yrs. The older guys swear they never heard of anything like "whole lotta of love."

You could be right strictly in terms of METAL because Zeppelin was so diverse.

I will say this, I believe Iommi is one of the most underrated guitarists ever. He's no Jimmy Page or Eddie Van Halen, but he had a lot of good rifts and could shred his ass off, and his sound was nice and distorted.
