WTF is the Black national anthem?

Something that blaques sing as a hymn at the Trinity Church in Chicago.

Fuck that!

She was hired to sing the National Anthem.

I guess we should just let her express herself.

Why isn't it called the african-american national anthem?

On a more serious note, if you're hired to do something, you do it. You don't go off on your own and decide to do something different. That's not racism, that's just living up to your end of the bargain.

Do I want an apology? No. However she should at least come out in public and state she made an error in judgement.

Like Don Imus and Michaels Richards were allowed too? I agree

Throwing N-bombs around and singing a different song are two totally different lapses in judgement.

However, I never thought what Imus did was really bad in the first place. I also think that the station managers that decided to pull the plug on him were perfectly in their right. Just because you can say something, doesn't mean there aren't consequences.

Of course, I've always been for business owners having the whole "freedom of association" right. Go figure.

Roseanne Barr should have been hung for the disrespect she showed performing the national anthem.

So, throwing n-bombs around is bad? Worse than breach of contract?

Should I post a Katt Williams clip? Or should I post the album cover called "nigger"?

There are already enough geigh threads to tide you over.

But go ahead made a joke of the thread. Not many on the board are willing to discuss the absolute hypocrisy of the country or the board unless it fits into the pc definition.

I am really going to miss this U.S.A.

Where did I write that? While it may be fun to play the wild conjecture game, I'm really not in the mood tonight.

Maybe another time?

I've already voiced my disdain about Roseanne's performance.

If you're bailing on this country ... don't let the screen door hit you where the good lord split you. :p

she had no right singing anything other than the National Anthem.

You DO NOT fuck with the National Anthem!

You couldn't be more off base. What a surprise. Unfortunately, this thread is not about Roseanne.

I am trying to point out some of the ridiculous double standards and hypocritical thought so prevalent here and throughout our country.

I often wonder how the militant, black converts to islam will react when their favorite thong, booty-shake, video girls will be doing it in a burka and robe...

"Of course, I've always been for business owners having the whole "freedom of association" right. Go figure."

This was during a State of the City address where she was hired to perform the National Anthem.

I guess you are not so averse to the wild conjecture game as you proclaimed eh?

Where have I made any wild conjectures? Quit playing straw-man, it's so 1995.

I've yet to see what has drawn your ire. The fact I hold her at fault for her actions, or the fact that I held others in similar situations just as responsible?

Exactly. It's like you want to argue for the sake of arguing.

I'm just not in the mood, unless you want to go at it concerning Hawkings information paradox.

You'll have to let me know which side you want to take on that.

Black national anthem? - NO -
We don't call it that, maybe CNN does.
"Lift Every Voice and Sing" is not only sung in the USA it is for all North American Blacks.

Was she contracted to sing the SSB or the "national anthem"

any-way, I belive she already said sorry.

Lol. I am just wishing to stay on topic. Now we are onto physics?

Fine. Start a new thread explaining g-theory to us and stop persisting in your arguments aside from the issue. This will not turn into an argument between you and I.

Clearly, you are, while in a diminished capacity for comprehension, certainly in the mood.

Have a good night.

So did Imus and Michaels.

And yes she was contracted to sing the National Anthem.

She chose "artistic expression".

How can we possibly stay on topic when all you're doing is beating a dead horse.

Me: She was in the wrong. As have other people been in the past.

You: She's a witch! How can you say she isn't wrong?

Me: I said she was wrong. The onus is on her, but lets not make a mountain out of a molehill.

You (ad-nauseum she's wrong!!!!!!!!!)

Me: Uh, we already established that.

But of course, I'm the one not on the issue here. What do you want from this woman? A pound of flesh?

Why do black people have a separate anthem?

They do realise white people still own this place, right? (no racist)

No MM , I'm referencing his posts because he "gets it" and you don't
Wong is wrong and skin color has nothing to do with it

jeez mm, stop picking on the one black person in colorado...it took years just to get one here that was not a nugget, bronco, or cu football player...:)

America is like South Africa the brown skin out number the white but the whites will always run shit----ALWAYS!

True. I dont care what color she is or what song she sang - she was supposed to sing the National Anthem and she didnt. For that, she was way wrong. There's no denying it. She could have sung the Hokey Pokey for all I care, bottom line it was wrong.

Does anyone remember stepin fetchit? Man, watching things like that really make me sick and ashamed to be called American. Despite the time period, racism is still a very big problem today even though some would argue against that. The thing is, is that racism is mostly hidden or subdued while long ago they made it blatantly obvious with complete disregard for what it would do to the race... I digress

Now, back on subject. I 100% agree with the posts regarding her not singing what she was paid to sing. Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, or whatever, it doesnt matter. The issue would still be present that what she sang wasn't the national anthem and is viewed as disrespectful in light of that.

Lift every voice is actually a realy lovely song...and it was the first song I played by ear on the piano when I was seven or eight and messing with my grandmother's piano. It's a church hymn, I'm not sure how it got decided it would be a "black national anthem," since it certainly wasn't written with that in mind....I guess the uplifting message?

But yeah....her singing anything other than the national anthem is completely disrespectful.

A while ago I believe Whoop! There It Is was the blaque national anthem. But now I live in Utah and the only blaques are the Jazz.

you could call someone cracker all day and no one would say or do anything but if a white guy make a bad joke or even an offensive comment about anyone, then he has to be hung out to dry. Double standard. If white men can't say shit about others then they can't say shit about us. I like Carlos Mencia... just crack on everyone equally. Being a jerk will have it's own negative consequences without BS legislation and being PC offended. As far as a business making a decision... their call as to whether it violates their rules or their bottom line. Private business can make any decision it wants as long is it does not break the law.

As far as black national anthem goes... I find it offensive. It's the damn national anthem. Have some friggin' respect or get the fuck out.

Singing it in place of the national anthem being offensive I get. The song itself should not be offensive to you. it was not written to be a national anthem, and it's a simple uplifting church hymn about hope and liberty.

gjohnson5 said:

G - you know I respect you so this is not a racist or inflammatory comment. We, or at least most of us, do get it. I am al for judging solely on merit and contributuon to my life, my business, and my country. No prejudicial treatment; positive or negative; in any case for anything based on race, religion, gender, sexual preference as stated in "All men are created equal" but the door swings both ways. We are all American so no cutting slack for any reason on disresepcting the country by screwing with the national anthem.

I do agree that we don't need to beat the dead horse on punishment but we can discuss and agree/ disagree on the merit of wheter or not she viloated contract and/or disrespected the country and every American living in it.

My error, I was not being clear. The song is not offensive. It's a nice song. Replacing the national anthem is offensive.

Deport her from our country!

I don't think you could deport her, but there should be a law against people like her.

I'd like to see a law in Canada that would make it illegal to be a seperatist; I'd have no problem herding up jackass Quebecers who think they deserve special treatment and their own country and putting them in prison camps. I'd have chain gangs tapping maple syrup in the spring, doing roadwork in the summer, raking leaves in the fall, and shovelling driveways in the winter.

Those would be the choices I'd give French-Canadian seperatists: prison/labor camp, or go the fuck to France where you can be as French as you want to be.

She probably still upset about slavery, which ended in 1865.
What a lot of blacks dont know is not only did whites have slaves, free blacks and native americans also had slaves. It was also their own tribesmen over in africa that originally sold them into slavery.

Africa is a terrible country, rebels raping and pillaging.. Diamond wars and slavery. Disease.. I remember when I was growing up and all these blacks used to wear leather necklaces with pictures of africa on it.. I say if you think it is so much better there then go.

Buncha whiners.

And I'm NOT being racist when I say that, either....I think Jews who still play the victim about the holocaust are whiners too.

It was a long time ago, so get over it already.

Well atleast the holocaust was in the last 50 years.. I think the Jews that are still alive and were in those camps have every right to bitch..

Their is no black person that was a USA slave and is still alive.

drsketch said:

I have no issue with actual camp survivors....but there are a hell of a lot of Jews that never saw a camp that like to play the victim.

So how do you like the bilingualism requirments that they have? I like Quebec but don't get the requirement for all signs etc to be in both. I have a vendor outside Montreal and when you call it greets in french then says for english press 9.

The double standard pisses me off. There should be a requirement for english to be taught as a second language in their schools, just as there is that requirement up until grade 9 in the other Canadian provinces. If they don't want that, we should scrap French language education everywhere else. Signeage in Quebec should be bilingual...if they don't want to do that, the rest of Canada should scrap bilingual signeage and display information in ENGLISH ONLY.

They want a double-standard...and unfortunately, one bleeding heart goddamned liberal government after another has pandered to them over the years. It's sickening.

If she was born in the USA then send her to one of the countries america
