Now I'm gonna get slightly off-topic in response to the direction this thread has taken:

Has anyone ever seen footage from the original "Blue eye/ Brown Eye Experiment"? It was staggering to see.

After ML King was assassinated, this teacher in the Midwest wanted to understand racism. She came in one day and announced to her class (2nd graders or something close): "Blue eyed kids are dumber than the rest. It's an absolute fact."

She treated them as such all day--rearranged the seats so they were in the back, monitored them on the playground (they're a combative bunch, too--never play with others those blue-eyes).

Sure enough, the blue-eyed kids couldn't do math problems they knew the day previous. Their reading suffered. Fights broke out among them.

Next day, the teacher says: "I was mistaken, it's the brown eyes who are stupid." And sure enough, the drama was repeated.

I tried to bring up the difference in EDUCATION and how profoundly that affects things--how it makes the concepts of a level playing field and "equal opportunity" kind of moot. You start off as kids and have messages reinforced every day....

All the teachers in my area vie to teach in the rich areas. A teacher's dream! Well-behaved kids on Preparation H (as in "Harvard"). No one wants the poor, urban schools. And it is color-coded, believe me.

Well - at UGA, they had TWO Ms. UGA pagents. One for anyone and one for blacks only. That's fucked up.

It would be nice for everyone to get along.. but if everyone was a mullatto where would the culture be?

How fun would that be? I think that we are doing fine now.. We just need to stop paying out Federal Aid, get everyone who is on it to get up off their asses and hustle themselves a job.
It would be great to have punishment for being on welfare too long. Like.. anything over 1 year = loss of vital organ.

please clarify. What game? Are you saying every white person is responsible in some way for slavery and any other problems facing the black community? I'd like to know. Because believe it or not, not every white person is out to get black people.

no it was an excercise on using eye color to determine who was superior. The Brown eyed people in the group were led to believe that they were smarter and more intelligent than the blue eyed people.

I realize that not everyone is so negative and racist.

I don't believe every white person is responsible for slavery.

Politics is a game. Black pride is POLITICAL in nature. Black pageants are part of the Black pride movement. Therefore, Black pageants are a result of a political drive to mobilize black voters to act as a block.

Black pageants have outlived their usefulness, except to those involved in the pageants.

If blacks want to continue to strategize politics well, blacks need to align themselves with Latinos.

So yes, black pageants are not constructive now, but they WERE.
