Witchcraft... what a crock of shit

History is written by the winner. How can you be so sure "God" is the rightous one? Maybe he was the evil one and "Satan" tried to overthrow an evil regime but simply lost.

Seems to me that religion is the antithesis of an open mind.

That's a religion for lesbians, hippies, and fat guys that like Dungeons and Dragons.

Yeah, and pimply teenagers who think they're "deeper" if they have an exotic religion that freaks everybody out. That, and listening to Korn.

My religious beliefs are ecclectic and witch is not a term I would generally use to describe myself. That said it is fairly obvious from the comments on this thread that none of you have spent much time finding out about the "old religion". It would seem to me that folks would take the time to learn a little something about what they are bashing before they do it. Christians are very quick to point to the bible and say that the craft is condemned by God - the reality is that the correct translation of the word that was translated into "witch" is poisoner. There were political motives for the mistranslation. Almost every practice of the Catholic church has it's roots in paganism and every Christian holiday is a direct descendent of a pagan holiday.

As for the power and happiness of the witch - let me just say that all who claim to be not truly are and most who truly are find the term to confining to describe themselves as such. For me it matters not what alter that I kneel at - only that I kneel. I am equally comfortable in a Christian church, a Pagan cirlce or a Buddhist temple. I find it interesting that the message of almost every religion in the world is love and tolerance and instead of "getting it" we choose to sit around and fight about who is the most right.

I totally agree.

Very interesting. Where can I find objective data supporting this claim? thanks

Here is a link that touches on it briefly with regard to Easter. It isn't great but I didn't look very hard either. I will try to find more links for you this evening when I have a bit more time if you are truly interested. I do not like to engage in anything that may be faith destroying for another as IMO all faiths are equally valid. If you do some searching and reading on the subjects of Catholic history and pagansim - look at the history of it as well. I think the book "Drawing Down the Moon" I can't remember the author gives the history of many of the pagan religions and talks directly about the early Catholic church and the political influences that led to the adoption of pagan practices by the church in order to aid in the conversion of pagans to Catholicism.
