Well truth be told, I went through all my power computing days but I'm too old for that stuff now. To date myself, my Christmas present in 1980 was a copy of NewDos/80. I'm sure it's still boxed away somewhere beside my first-edition copy of The Peter Norton Programmer's Guide to the IBM-PC.
Some of it may be related to how your ideas about computing evolve over time. It's not an issue of maturity either, but more a function of your underlying computing philosophy.
