This information is right off my home heating oil invoices:
December 14, 2007, 200 gallons @$3.109 gallon = $621.80
December 7, 2006, 180 gallons @$2.109 gallon = $379.62
$1.00 a gallon jump in 12 months. When I first bought this house, in 1990, I locked in my heating oil for many seasons for UNDER $1.00 a gallon. In fact I think the first few years it was $0.69 a gallon.
As for gas, our car is over 13 years old, we own it outright, it has 6 cylinders, gets over 20 mpg and has over 215k on it. We haven't been able to afford a new car. Now we really can't afford a new one because we have to get a new furnace, right now.
