does anyone else here keep a journal for their car? i.e. write down everytime you get gas, where, how much and what your MPG is? also logging any work or maintenance done on the vehicle?

yeah but thats probably been true for a lot longer than a year
hell I remember back in 04 when gas was relatively cheap (2.00/gal) and I was chalking up $450 a month in gas cost in my blazer - but i drove my car for a living (licensing foster homes all over chicagoland) so I got some reimbursement there.
For people driving 50k SUV's not living near the edge of their means it probably doesn't matter but Americans have the habit of living on the verge of bankruptcy.
