What's real good running shoes?

C'mon you elite fitness bitches - earn your title!

i mean something you can run in for hours - and your feet arent fucking screaming and sore.

I used New Balance while at West Point. Sometimes we ran over 5 miles a day, feet felt great.. And they are the only running show made in America!

You have to try them on - and a lot of them.

I have 3 Asics gels, 2 Nike and 1 New Balance - 1 pair of the Nikes and 1 pair of the Asics are my favorites.

I also have orthodics so I have a bit more flexibility with what shoes I can wear because I don't have to be as concerned with the arch support.

If you are considering getting into running then you should go to a store that specializes in running shoes.. Most stores check to see if you are an over or under pronator... very important... You should be fitted for the right shoe prior to any running to avoid torn ligaments etc:

Asics, road and off trail. New Balance are also well made.

These brands and a few others offer shoes with structured cushioning to suit the pronation of your feet.

Find out the pronation of your feet (stand with wet feet on a piece of paper or check the soles of your old shoes) and try on a few different brands with shoes that suit.

I ran through two pairs of New Balance in less than a year. The last pair started tearing up at the inside of the heel, exposing the rather annoying hard plastic.

I won't buy this brand any more. I found it not fit for constant, daily use. It might fare well for occasional workouts or if you have an office job, though.

I stick with boots or a mid-range pair of Nike air shoes (if I can find a pair that's not horribly obnoxious looking. I wouldn't be caught dead in those ugly Nike shox things.)

I wear Saucony personally because I have narrow feet, but New Balance and Asics are also all good. It's important to actually try them on and take a jog around either the store or the mall if they will let you to see how they feel. A good shoe will feel like a comfortable slipper.

New Balance or Mizuno are very good shoes, fuck Nike..they are overpriced pieces of shit the tear up way too quickly.

You're the only person I've ever hear that complained of New balance.

I've got a pair that are about 5 years old and besides being really dirty, they have little to no wear on them at all.

Mizuno ,asics, saucony (sp)......all good. I prefer Nike because I have a narrow heal. They are all I will run or cycle in....

Good advice here! I avoided Asics for years because of how ugly they were, and also because the one time I tried a pair on they felt horrible. Get fitted for the right shoe and you wont regret it. I have the Asics Cumulus 9 now and they rule so much I might just wear them to bed tonight.

cool. i guess i'll go to foot locker. but i hope i don't get a moron salesguy.

ERM NO!

If Footlocker is anything like footlocker here, they specialise in FASHION shoes now.

Do an internet search or check the yellow pages for specialist running shops.

Make sure they have a treadmill. The last time I bought running shoes, they actually recorded me running in them on the tread mill and analysed the movement in different pairs.

Needless to say, I ended up with Asics Katanos, and a pair of New Balance.

Most GOOD running shoes are really freaking UGLY, I keep hoping they will make a nice looking pair, or some in black.

I hope you are not still running in them. Running shoes have a lifespan, it is usually x number of miles.

I often buy 2-3 pairs/year and rotate them for running.

After a year (depends how much I am running), I don't wear them for that anymore.

They may be comfortable and feel ok, but they would have LONG lost their ability to absorb the impact of running

+1. After a year get new shoes for running and wear the old ones for fashion. ONLY wearing your running shoes to run in. I'm partial to Asics GT-2xxx series, currently 2110.

Eastbay.com bro

I get all my running shoes there..........Asics are the best for running, as well as Mizuno and New Balance

Yep, Nike make nice looking shoes but they're no good for a high mileage runner.

Do most of my running cross country through sandy pineapple and tapioca plantations or on jungle trails. Even well made shoes don't last long as the stitching tears up and the gluing comes away with the humidity. Average shoe lifespan is 4 months.

I've just ordered a pair of custom trail running shoes from these guys http://www.herseycustomshoe.com/

They're not cheap or a fashion statement by any stretch of the imagination but I bet they're like wearing silk slippers and they'll last.

If you do any type of long distance running then you need to go to a running shop and be fitted with the proper shoe... It depends on wheter you are an under or over pronator

The only real answer here is:

The BEST running shoe you could possibly get, is the one that feels most comfortable for you.

Every brand has its own nuances, some people like one brand over the other, some people need a specific model.

I'd try out the basic entry level runners for Nike (Air Pegasus), Reebok, Brooks, New Balance, Saucony, and Mizuno. There are others, but in that order try on shoes. Many people like Nike or Reebok, some of the other brands offer slight differences that people like. Things like running style (do you over or under pronate?), weight, and terrain you will be running on can make a difference.
