What Was Your Biggest Mistake?

Nelson Montana

Chairman of Board

In terms of bodybuilding that is.

Since this board is all about learning, I think it would be great to hear some stories that others may learn from.

It can be about anything -- a non productive training system, bad diet habits, bad advice, reckless drug use, or the fact that you bought a lifetime supply of HMB.

Let's hear it. We've all made mistakes. What was yours?

in all honesty

not having PCT in order on one of my cycles

thought it was just EQ and it was really TEST

that one hurt for a while :(

moral of the story

PCT is more if not just as important as the cycle itself......

I am all better now

and my cycle will always be

dbol and primo

or OX

or maybe even some deca

lots of anrogens are not needed unless you looking for alot of mass and strnecgth if your a novice

less is much better

When I tried winny, worst AAS experience ever...

Or mixing viagra when I was already taking test, dbols and deca. Then I was wondering why my BP was at 174....

Taking a former Mr. Canada's advice (as a newbie) and ran HCG mixed with distilled water. Fucking shit really hurt!

Thats a good question. I think my biggest mistake was not having a proper diet and training schedule in place during my first mild cycle, since I was in my second year of college and wasn't fully prepared to dedicate the time and effort needed to make the most of the AAS. Granted it was a dbol-only cycle, I feel that if I had just taken the time to do more research and put in max effort (not to mention a PCT regimen), I would have been a lot happier. I think lack of research before a first cycle seems to be a common problem these days...

another thing i thought of that i messed up on my first cycle.

my diet was actually very good, but i had a huge error in training.

i kept switching up my exercises in my training sessions, and as a result, i kept running in circles. i found i should stick with the same exercises for 10-12 weeks for best results.

none of this 'im not getting results after 3 week, i need to switch it up'.

moral of story, frequently switching training routines gets you nowhere.

My biggest mistake was when I first started out (late 80's, early 90's)... wasted a ton of money on garbage supplements. Had I just spent that money on quality calorie/protein sources instead... :(

what's with everyone and the AAS?

for me, it was never eating enough, never sleeping enough, and never incorporating chinups into my routine earlier

im a natty, so no drug use problems, but my biggest mistake was in my early years where i though to look solid, you needed to have low fat (true) and the best way to have low fat is to eat very little, and run a lot.

as a result i reckon i put myself easy 1 year behind in my training- i dropped shitloads of muscle and just looked wasted (i have a biggish frame) not a good thing at all. then of course i put on fat (because i had shit all muscle) and it all went to hell in a handbasket

if i had known to up my protein, drop my carbs, moderate my fat, split my meals, and use a 6 day alternating weights/cardio split, i would have looked 1000x better with half the effort without all the drama.

I started training with NO SUPPLEMENTS at all ( you know what the "well informed people" say about them ).
For years it went on, until i got so plagued by overtraining i had to start using them for a chance ( never quit thereafter ).
because there's a minimum training load you must take to grow: i don't believe in those "sixteen brutal minutes & you're done "; hence you must supply your body with what it takes to grow.
A point to address is: between supplements & AAS, people mention PRICE.
Well, as far as i can go, with AAS you must worry every time whether what you've gotten is a fake; how much of it is just sesame oil, etc.
If you want not to worry about it, you should have a doctor on the side ( for labwork, too )...and they do want to get PAID.
Of course there's always the cellar warrior route, where you're left with a bunch of vials manufactured in East Timor, which look tampered with & last time you read on a board a product whose name was so similar lab tested 0%.

That's weird manny, as viagara should lower your blood pressure since it is a vasodilator.

My biggest mistake was using Deca-Durabolin....period! especially my first cycle which consisted of 200mgs. of deca/wk. and 30 mgs of d-bol/day, without any test, ran it for 10 wks. Mind you I bounced back fairly quick since I was 20 y/o. Great for strength and joints, terrible for your dick. I'll never use it again....Amen

MAG-10

I gained weight, but of course I almost doubled my food intake. All I got to show for it was reduced libido when it was over, a hit to the hairline, and a hit to the wallet. I dumped almost 2 full bottles down the drain and spit into the sink to help it along.

explain your winny experience. Let me guess...it was spectro winny and almost killed ya.

1st place) Not eating enough. Period.

2nd place) Reading the supplement ads in bodybuilding mags, which led to thousands of wasted dollars. Yes thousands!

3rd place) succuming to peer pressure when dieting for a competetion.

Great topic. Now its your turn Nelson.

After 30 years I've made every mistake in the book, so I wrote a book!

The thing is, I don't think my mistakes were all that unique. And interestingly enough, when I speak of them, there are still people who take offense, because they don't want to believe that THEY are making a mistake.

I don't know if it's a mistake but what made the biggest difference in my progress was in discovering how to train for my particular body type. That's a big one.

In general, the three biggest (and the ones which have caused the most dissention on the board) are...

Not realizing how counterproductive aerobics are.

The fear of food.

Clomid.

1. Winny - I have never experienced greater joint pain and hairloss was aweful.

2. Over-training. We used to train 2x's a day 7 days a week. (Back when I was 19yo.)

3. Wasted money on worthless supps.

1- Diet
2- Overtraining and Undertraining. I worked out 7 days a week, although while I was there I wasn't working hard enough.
3- Throwing EQ into a winny/prop cycle and stopping all 3 at the same time. First off, EQ made me too hungry to cut. Second, the long half life kept me suppressed way too long (I thought it was bold base).

as an athlete, not incorporating deadlifts into my routine earlier.

not pounding my posterior chain like it deserves to be pounded

listening to internet guru's :o
there is no one-man-formula/empirical conclusion for nutrition, training and whatever other aspect of fitness/health/wellbeing - it is all highly variable and intricately individual :martini:

My biggest mistake was building up my obliques thinking it would chissel them out. Wrong! All it did was make my waist look bigger. I wish I would have figured that out in the beginning.
