I been on the hunt on craigs list for a piece of cardio equipment for a.m cardio. I have small apartment so I don't have room for something big. I was thinking a shwinn style spin bike or maybe something like the gazelle or even a manual folding treadmill, or even a small eleptical like the orbit. Who owns or has owned any of the following? Thoughts opnions please

a cheap treadmill would suck harder than frisky on a bottle of Jagermeister. Get some kettlebells.

LOL thanks but I am looking for cardio only contest prep is fast approaching so I want something at home so I can't be making up reason why I ain't getting all my cardio in. What about a stationary bike?

Jnevin and redsamurai I have the attention 5 year that just had shot of espresso I so could not do those games I would be bored fast plus. I don't see them as real cardio. I do want the Wii fit but just for fun.

you could hire me.. now I will wake you up every morning ... fixy you breakfast and see to it that you do your cardio..problem solved... oh btw this position comes with friends with benefitss

I don't have experience with the specific types of home cardio equipment you're looking for, but I do have versions of all three and have some food for thought for you:

Treadmill might create a major noise issue (thumping) for your neighbors unless you're in the ground floor apartment. From my own experience, I found a treadmill to be harder on your feet and ankles than walking outside so save your money there.

I have a recumbent bike, not a spin bike. Easy to move, doesn't take up outrageous amounts of space as long as you can crank up the resistance you can get a pretty good burn going.

IMO the best cardio is an elliptical but do NOT get a low quality elliptical, first, it's less ergonomic and second, you'll destroy it in no time flat with regular use. Mine has a magnatronic back wheel (or whatever they called it). It has a big footprint and is a bit of a bear to move but despite being realatively old (6 years) it's still going strong.

My favourite is the eliptical machines. But like musclemom says, dont get the heap ones. I had one and it broke down when i got to heavy hehe. The good ones take up space though, so that sucks. Stationary bikes has always been the staple of my diet down cardio. Its not the most entertaining way of doing cardio, but the bikes doesnt take up that much space. And i can play xbox while biking hehe.

That is why I thought of the bike too watch tv and do my cardio at the same time.

Thanks MuscleMom I didn't know treadmills were harder on yeah then walking out side. I had a recumbant and hated it I prefer a real bike feel for some reason I just push harder on it then a recumbant.

Bear in mind, YMMV, I'm willing to admit it could be my DJD, but I can't walk on a treadmill for much more than 20 minutes without pains starting. I can walk a lot longer outside without the same kind of pain.

If I were you, I'd invest in a good quality spin bike. The good ones operate super-smooth, which saves your joints some wear and tear...and they're quiet too.

I usually just run in place for 45 minutes and when im done I dont have anything to put away.you dont have to spend money for a spin bike, but you have to replace your carpet often.

If I had room I'd love a quality treadmill or Concept 2 rower. This is my cardio station.

I started taking the stairs at work twice a day. 8 floors is a great booty workout for a fatty like me.

DT how much did that cost you for the bike set up?
The tv was $1,200. The bike was $3,000. The stationary attachment was $300...aim a big fan at your head and it's just like riding outside...only without the weather, cars, roadkill, potholes, hills and bikini-clad babes on the beach.

For that kind of money, why didn't you go with a stationary bike?

because it's a real bike, knucklehead. I just flip the lever and I'm out the door for a 2-4 hour ride.

I don't go out unless I've got 90 minutes of daylight at least. It's not worth the hassle of getting my gear on. I can hop on anytime and do an hour of intervals even a 8-9pm. The neighbor probably doesn't like but fuck that lil bass bumping Run DMC wannabe punk bitch kid. Besides...I never miss a college football game. It's hockey for negros...unless your name is Jarome Iginla. didn't think I knew bout him, did ya? all negros know each other...half of us have the same father.

ergometer (rowing machine). Nothing, and I mean nothing, will have you in better cardiovascular shape with minimal joint issues, than an ergometer. As long as you're actually using it correctly. I cringe and have to force myself not to correct pretty much everyone at the gym. I can always tell a former rower from someone who never has. Concept2 machines usually come with a free "how to" cd.

Spinning bikes are great because if you want to spend some cash you can get wattage output which is great for training. If you just want home cardio and have a bike then you can get a bike trainer (like previously posted) for $200. I set up mine and use my wireless controller with my XBox 360 for hours.
