What is going to happen?

Wow. Well I can fully understand the experience w/ the trainer - back in 2000 I hired the first guy I ever trained with whose selling point was "contest prep" - had his own gym, choreographed routines, etc. He did a lot of the same basic stuff I'd done for yrs but he had me doing these incline DB curls at really wide exposed angles - and drop sets to failure every time we did bi's. To the point where when he was going "Do you feel the burn??" I"m like "No but my joints are screaming bloody fucking murder.."

And lame as it is, you hire this guy because you are looking for new input on training methods and when you say "this hurts" they blow you off like you are trying to puss out or try to say they know what they are doing & its worked for yrs. So you either have to quit that trainer or go w/ it to see how it ends up. It usually ends up w/ somethign messed up. As a result of this guy I was overtrained to the point that my metabolism felt like it just shut down, I couldn't make it thru a training session w/o being completely exhausted and breakin down & crying, couldn't lose any weight and on top of it all, I have perpetual tendonitis in both my elbows and always encounter shoulder pain. Esp the shoulders - there are so many tendons & stuff in there that its hard to isolate a problem.

I'm so sorry about the trainer. Personally I'd plant a cluster bomb in his shorts.

To that end I've worked w/ chiropractors on it occassionally when I find a good kinesiology type chiro, lots of massage therapy, lots of warming up before training, stretching, ibuprofin, MSM & Glucosamine/Chondroitin and L-glutamine just in general. But if the stuff flares up (e.g. new training routine, etc.) it's annoying. It never really goes away. Andn then you have that chance that its a microtear or something.

Let me ask you this, has the doctor tried other cures, eastern / western? before suggesting cort shots? You do know those shots are a temporary solution to a bigger problem.

Yeah. I know several people that claim to have had miraculous relief from acupuncture.

Also, I think that you'd have to use cortisone for an extended period of time before it became catabolic. Plus, site injections like that aren't supposed to travel throughout your body. . .so, it shouldn't cause any collateral problems. Now, prednisone is another story.

.

I am one of them. One of my good friends could NOT lift his arms for 6 years, had a huge back problem. Western doctors could do nothing but surgery, which ended up not working. After 6 months of acupuncture he was cured! no joke, I saw it with my own eyes.

Shit! LOL He is the specialist!

Then see another one.
I had surgery on my right shoulder and needs the same for my left.
I did have cortisol shots before that and its just a temporary fix.

What is the problem with her shoulders?
Tendinitos is not the problem its more a symptom. I have it in my right forearm REALLY bad right now. I'm getting Active release done 3 days a week to fix that.

The shots are just temporary, if thats the only plan then find another doctor.
I can see why he wants to give the shots but if that all he got planned then move on. What did the MRI say?

X, she can't even be touched in those areas. She fucking screams in pain! She hasn't been able to sleep in weeks! We haven't had sex or left the house on the weekends in weeks! And these shots....what is going to happen? You say that are NOT going to heal her? So then what are these shots for then? They must serve a purpose.

She has either damaged the cartilege between the bone surfaces and/or torn the connective ligaments and tendons.

The anti-inflamatorys are meant to quiet the nerves while the body heals. These products and RICE are the first step.

Cortizon shots into the joints are meant to smooth the bone surfaces to reduce the pain. They do work in many cases. You can not do this more than a few times because this liquid desolves cells.

I am a fan of prolotherapy, which triggers the body's natural healing processes to repair the torn tissues. My guess is that it is this damage that is producing the pain.

Google a search for an MD in your area that does prolo. He/she can help. They will probe into the area, find the "hot spots" of damage, and treat them.

You can find info on prolo here and/or Google via Search. I'm a real believer because of the relief I got.

Best of luck and fast recovery!

I know what tendonitis is. I have had many of those in various bodyparts. But what she says she has is different. Not only the tendoninits pain but also a sharp shooting pain that goes up and down her arm. And sometimes up her neck. She also says that once in a while her arms will go numb. And that sometimes her shoulders feel freezing cold!

The doctor took X-rays to see if she had anything fractured or calcification. Nothing was there. But he did say that those symptoms she has are because of extreme inflammation. Causing all the nerves to get all bunched up. That is the cause of the pain, the numbness and cold she feels.

How many times have I complained to you guys about my injuries? And I have taken all your advices and they have worked. Not quick! But they take time and do heal me. I tried the same on her and they haven't worked.

Dang! That sounds serious. Hopefully she hasn't worn all of the articular cartilage off of her humerus bone. I've worn all of the articular cartilage off of the end of both of my femurs and off of the back of both of my knee caps and now both of my knees need to be replaced. :worried:

I'm sure all of that would've shown up on the X-ray don't you think?

Yes, generally the narrowing of the joint (especially where it's severe) shows up pretty clearly, even on an x-ray.

With the other symptoms that you're describing (numbness, tingling, cold feeling, etc.), it sounds more like a nerve thing to me. I've had some pretty bad experiences with my shoulders in the past and I kind of tracked it down to tricep curls (using barbell, lying on back, curling bar down to forehead), I was pushing the back of my head so hard against the bench that I was pinching nerves in my neck and the pain was showing up in my shoulders.

Anyway, good luck. I hope things work out for you. Gotta be hatin' the lack of nookie, eh?
