What characteristics do you prefer in a mate?

Responsible and loyal. I am not a terribly spontaneous person so I am not looking for that in someone else. As for loyalty if I commit to someone(friendship, relationship, etc) I am there for the long haul. Besided there is still room for romance in a responsible relationship.

As for now I am more of the I don't need no stinking mate, I am enjoying being single far too much to ruin it now.

Well maybe you have responsible and loyal with romantic.

Lets say someone always remembers your birthday but would never buy you a card, flowers or a gift that would delight you because he/she noted it to be something you really wanted.

It's not passion it's compassion.

Passion is fleeting, compassion is continuous.

I dont necessarily agree with this final statement either. Maybe I am a freak, but just up until the night my head hit the ground and even though he treated me VERY POORLY I was passionately in love with my exhusband.

My eyes are now open to a whole new world Velvett. I was never in lust w/my current love... but with each passing day, each gentle act of kindess and attentiveness I grow to love AND lust him more and more and more....

Until the day he stops treating me kindly which hopefully wont be until the day he dies - I will love him passionately AND compassionately.

I would have to say zest...for life, love, the unknown. I am not looking for a comfortable relationship. I am looking for a person that has taken his life into his own hands, has decided that they are in control of their destiny, and if changes are going to be made, they are the one that is going to make it happen. I like people that realize that they only are getting one short trip here on earth and are going to make the most of it...no regrets, no holding back..
