I'm a funtional athlete, which to me means having a body that is in the proportion that I am fast and agile and can actually be good at what I like, which for me is play tennis. Lifting weights just helps in that I've done it all my life and it keeps me strong and fit and injury free for the most part and still at the absolute top of my game at 40. When you get up to this age in a competitive sport and are still playing tournaments and going up against guys half your age, I think weightlifting is one of the things that makes all the difference in beating out everyone else. Plus, it makes me look good which never hurts. I think being a fat slob would have to be overrated.
