somewhat, but also the fact that unions have fought hard for many years to have the wages and benefits this good. and it is somewhat market driven because they do need good people and there are many facilities around here.
my opinion is it is fair compensation, it can be dangerous, its shiftwork, nights and holidays, 12 hr shifts. you need to have a broad range of knowledge and training.
i wont be off, i will be there in the morning. only one unit had the explosion. there are roughly 32 to more units to run and in fact even though it is on fire still, this unit might even be running by morning time. depends on the extent of the damage. gasoline production must go on.

yea, it can be nervous times when something happens and you know you have friends or family out there. out there meaning the other 6 or 7 plants in the immediate area. my brother works at another one, another brother thats a city fireman and responds to some of this crap, and i have friends that work at others. like tonight you immediately get on the phone and start calling to see if thier at work.
like i said though, serious injuries or deaths are really few considering.

I was in Galveston 2 weeks ago and the bar girls I was talking to said they felt the last one. We had a chemical plant explode up here in Fort Worth today.
