another 23 lbs and I should be good. That last surgery and last year in general wiped me out big time. My physique went to hell in a hand basket. Another reason why woman and relationships are not worth it. Just thought I would throw that in there.

All I know is I am glad to be free agaiin!

Fuggin excuses...pfft. (jk!)

Glad to her you are making process. I am under 200. Recovering from the surgery was quick for me but I have been very cautious hitting the very heavy weights doing more circuits and machines. I need to upp the cardio more though. I've been running more lately which is good.

That is what I have been doing. I just upped my cardio to 1 hour a day. The first 8 months after the hernia surgery, my stomach would cramp from 10 sit ups or 2 minutes of sex. It is getting stronger, but the lower abs still stick out from being slice open. It sucks big time. Now getting the diet on track is harder, but it is coming along. One thing I find is that the more you diet to compete etc, the harder it is each time out to get the same results since your body quickly adapts to the previous regime. I so want to look like my avatar again!

I had the same problems. I still have slight pulling on the corners of the patch (mine is big though 12 x 18 inches). I don't think it will every go away. When I am lifting I pay special attention to the pain and I do not push it.

The damn bulge is what gets me. My BF is still high by my standards so that may be part of the problem. Once I get it down and if it is still there I am going to look into lipo.

Diet is an issue with me too. Mine is pretty tight compared to normal people but the age factor (plus I am on thyroid meds) makes it harder for me to drop weight like I used to. I'm trying to pack on mass at the same time so I always err on the eat more than eat less. My body responds great to cardio but with the schedule I have I never skip the gym but I'll keep the cardio short if needed. Circuits have been awesome though. I never really did them except when I was in the military. I've seen good progress not resting between sets and mixing it up. It isn't the best way to put on slabs of muscle though.

After reading all of this I am going to hammer out my diet tomorrow and keep it very tight over the next 12 weeks. I need a kick in the ass and putting it on paper and following it is probably what I need.

I had ACL surgery may of 07. I did ok last year with training, but this year so far has been the best yet. It sucks, but you'll get there!

do you think your hernia was from lifting?

Mine was. I did 590 on squats on Friday, did 490 deadlift on Monday, and when I was sitting down to read I noticed a little bulge and I was like "this was not here last week." I am sure it was the deadlifting.

The two weeks prior to the injury my abs were very tight which was unusual. Mine was congenital though. I had hernia surgery when I was a baby and there were minor holes found when they did the initial surgery. The doc thinks that over time they grew bigger and the deadlifting was the final act that tore it open.

from my understanding, hernias are practically genetic. youre born with a weakness in the abdominal wall due to the insertion of the fibers in the groin not being "sewn" as tight as possible. from here, its a matter of time regardless of conditions. this is what my chiropractor explained to me.

phuck i had a hernia surgery when i was pretty young. how old were you when you got the deadlifting one?

My hernia was an umbilical (2 of them) which I got from squatting heavy over time. I wore a belt religously, but eventually it got me. Tonight I got back up with heavy legs and an hour of cardio. I think the biggest thing is the fear factor of not being where you remember you were and also of getting hurt again. Just takes time, but will get there eventually.

In my mid 30's. I didn't start powerlifting until I was in my early 30's.

The one I had when I was a baby was an umbilical hernia. It is normal for babies to get them. My daughter had one. 99% of them heal on their own (her's did) I needed surgery when I was a baby.

The hernia I got from lifting was above the belly button, a hiatal hernia. Very rare for men. Women get them from pregnancy. My doc said there were three tears present when he opened me. He fucked up by not sticking in a patch big enough. Over time it moved from lifting. I had to get a second surgery to remove it, fix my intestines, and now I have a huge patch and a nice 8 inch scar. 90% of the people who get the second surgery have complications. I paid big $$$ but I got one of the best surgeons up at UNC to do it. He used to do organ repair. I had zero complications after the surgery (knock on wood) and my intestines were repaired without having to remove any of it. I got damn luck plus I owe my doc my life. I was in the gym 5 weeks after getting out of the hospital lifting. Amazing.

I have been slow hitting the heavy weights though. I will never try to deadlift heavy again. I can do squats fine with no pain. Some ab movements and pullups (causes the abs to stretch) causes minor pulling in one area so I take it easy on those movements.

The doc said there is no way in hell I can get an umbillical or hiatal hernia again because of the patch - it covers the entire region. I could get one down in the groin just like any normal person but I've been to hell and back with the surgeries and I'm not a pro - I work out for the enjoyment of it so screw trying to break my record in the deadlift lol

LOL If men only had to deal with babies...

ANY hernia is no joke, but ya'll who are prone think about carrying ONE baby and the damage that alone could do.

LOLX 10O for any young man who thinks that his young ass in its prime could compete with one of his more mature brothers.... Let me see that ass in his 40's... let alone any decade thereafter.

LOL at women who need to compare 2 things with nothing in common to try and make a correlation that women are superior to men in matters of dealing with pain. on a who gives a smelly shit scale this is a - 1 out of 10, 0 being the absolute bottom of who gives a smelly shit.
