Just because something liek Alcohol is labeled a depresent ...does not mean teh person will be in a sense depressed...while in defenition their system will be..they tend to be very stimulated...active..agressive etc.

Smoke up guys. I personally like a good stong smoke..be4 heavy leg workout..makes the pain bearable..and lets me go beyond the pain..and do many more lbs than without. A weekend smoke is also very nice.

Everything in moderation.

The reason people act aggressive or happy when they are drunk is because of social norms.

That doesn't make any sense. It seems like you've never smoked the wype of weed that energizes you and makes you want to work out and maybe you haven't drank tequila or Jager(which make me feel like i'm catfshing with a shotgun so to speak). So maybe you just don't understand, but social norms have nothing to do with how a substance effects your body.

Because someone smokes before a workout doesn't mean they aren't taken their lifting serious. I mean if they are saying that it is helping them lift harder and stronger then how are they not taking it seriously..? Please explain.. For one thing weed and any chemical compund effects people differently, so what you should of said is "If I smoke weed then I will not take my lifting serious!" How do you know what effects people are having from a substance?? Even if it didn't actually help them it sure isn't hurting them either. I personally concentrate much much better when high but not too high because then I am like duh!!! But only 1 or 2 hits I USUALLY lift one or 2 more reps easily. I think you probably haven't ever done marijuanna so you shouldn't speak on it. Even if you did, like I said the effects you may have gotten isn't what everyone will have.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. Alcohol is a depressant, you can't change that. The reason people act the way they do when they are drunk is because of the people around them and social norms. People think you're suppose to have a good time when you're drunk. If you sit at home and drink by yourself you're going to act totally different than you would if you were at a party with 100 people. It's not really a debatable issue, anyone who has taken any psych classes will tell you the same thing about social drinking rituals with alcohol.

I've taken a couple psych classes and I think that if you're sitting at home drinking by yourself...you were already depressed as fuck. Its not the alcohol.

If you're sitting at home alone, you'll be depressed because well..you're all alone.

I've sat and drank with with 5 friends and we end up having a good time....drinking is a social thing. Heck, I even played some friends on X-box live and we got drunk, and it was fun. You can't do it alone.

But if you were at home alone, sober-you woudn't be depressed unless you're suffering from chronic depression. If simply being alone causes you to be depressed then you're suffering from medical depression.

"Effects on emotional states and specific forms of behaviour are clearly extremely hard to demonstrate, as to prove that alcohol produces, by way of action on the CNS, psychological changes which lead to particular behaviours, one must control for the influence of social and cultural factors and individual expectations regarding the effects of alcohol. The anthropological literature shows how central aspects of culture can radically shape the ways in which people learn to drink and the patterns of behaviour which are associated with alcohol consumption. The different patterns of learning fostered by different cultures, and the novel modes of learning that acculturation can present, do not only provide models of appropriate and inappropriate drinking habits, they also create sets of expectancies regarding the behavioural effects of alcohol."

“There is overwhelming historical and cross-cultural evidence that people learn not only how to drink but how to be affected by drink through a process of socialisation...Numerous experiments conducted under strictly controlled conditions (double-blind, with placebos) on a wide range of subjects and in different cultures have demonstrated that both mood and actions are affected far more by what people think they have drunk than by what they have actually drunk...In simple terms, this means that people who expect drinking to result in violence become aggressive; those who expect it to make them feel sexy become amorous; those who view it as disinhibiting are demonstrative. If behaviour reflects expectations, then a society gets the drunks it deserves.”

"Expectations not only shape drunken behaviour, they also enable subsequent rationalisation, justification and excuses (MacAndrew and Edgerton, 1969; Gusfield, 1987). In cultures where there is an expectation that alcohol will lead to aggression, for example, people appeal to the fact that they were drunk in order to excuse their belligerent conduct."

Just a few inserts from one of the most reputable studies done on alcohol.
