I had one of the first V6 Non turbo Supras back in 82.
I was only making like $5 an hour and had $430 car payments.
It was a Chick magnet back then..

My guess not a single one of you has ever owned a Viper.....
I've had 7.....most recently a Black Hennessy 03' RT/10......
There is no comparison........
Take two stock cars......a 96 RT/10 with 10000 miles on it...
And a stock Supra Twin Turbo......with 10000 miles on it.....
Book value is the same.......and the actually purchase price would be the same if you could find two such cars to compare.....and buy
Any way you want to look at it......in stock form the Supra would get it's ass handed to it every time......
You wanna talk mods????
Ok........put $5,000 in the Supra.......whatever you want.....
And I'll put $5,000 in a stock RT/10 gears, header, exhaust, and better airflow........and once again the Viper will contiune to walk away from the Supra.......

yeah I'd hate to think how much it would cost to replace a couple of legsApöllo said:

LMAO! First of all the blue book value is not the same as Lumberg pointed out (Kelly's blue book is one of the standards). It may be close but it's not the same.
Secondly, your point basically shows that the DEPRECIATION value of the Viper is a piece of shit compared to the "rice burner" Supra. Supra's hold their value, Viper's don't. The cost of a Viper is nearly twice that of a Supra, yet after some miles are put on it they are valued nearly the same.

look at the displacement difference between the Supra and the Viper. now look at the 1/4 mile times they were running. i was having a hard time seeing some of them, but in every race it looked like that Supra was under .5 seconds slower...WITH LESS THAN HALF THE ENGINE.
i like things that look good and go fast. i hate riced out cars. however, bone stock supra doesn't look bad at all, and i wouldn't fuck it up by making it look retarded.
i'm a fan of muscle cars, big blocks, endless horsepower and torque, and speed. however, japanese cars and motorcycles do just as much with half the engine. yeah, pitbull might outrun me with his bike up against mine, but he's got a 1340cc engine in his, i've got 600ccs, and he wouldn't get far away from me. it takes THAT much more of an american built engine just to beat a japanese one.
and lets hit on fuel efficiency real quick here...a Viper gets what, 10mpg, 12? i wouldn't doubt the Supra gets in the 20s.
yes, it was a V6 mustang, but.....
took the gf's Civic today to save some gas (double the milage than my Blazer). hit a stretch of road with 2 lanes that runs a few miles long. a V6 mustang jumped in front of me, we were both going about 75mph. we both ran up to 80 and passed the other cars in the right lane. i stayed in the left lane 2 car lengths behind him. he apparently thought this was a challenge, so he started pulling away. we ran up to 115mph and i was still 2 car lengths behind him. 1.6L SOHC NON-VTEC 96 Civic keeping up with a late 90s V6 Mustang. he had twice the engine. yeah, i know, a GT Mustang would've left me eating dust, but it's sad when it takes an American car twice the engine just to beat a Japanese one.

Viper needs more than double the engine of the Supra to beat it.
pathetic.

I'll say it once, I'll say it again.....stock Supra vs. stock Viper = Supra loses everytime.

i met a former car dealer, and he was giving me advice on buying a used car. he said that there is some kind of book dealers use when purchasing a used car. he told me to go to a dealership, tell them i like car x, and tell them i will pay $500 more than what this book says.
do you know what book i'm talking about. i wrote this shit down, but i lost it.
crak600 said:wasn't sure the displacement of your bike, i thought i was close. what does it run in the 1/4 btw?
in this discussion, you fail to acknowledge why a stock Viper will beat a stock Supra by .3-4 seconds in the 1/4 mile...and that's because it has more than double the displacement. more than double....2.6 times the displacement! even with THAT much more displacement, the Supra still holds pretty firm ground being under 1/2 second slower in the 1/4 mile.
now, imagine if the japanese build an engine that was 1/2 the size of the viper engine, or hell, say 5-6L displacement.....the viper would look completely pathetic.

depends on the mods.
if both cars start at stock and you are given $20,000 to spend, the viper still wins.
i'm not sure where the mythical supra stuff comes from, yes its a good car with a lot of potential for mod's, but the viper starts off with alot more power and every bit the modification potential.
Lumberg said:That's the point that you and pitbullsl have been arguing from the start, and that's not the point.
The proper comparison is, you have a total budget of $70,000. Each person can spend the money however they like, the only rule is one person has to start with a Supra at blue book value, and the other person has to start with a Viper at blue book value.
NOW who wins?

would love the 01 gts, what color/what price? just in the thinking stage right now.
powerforward said:"I sense lots of Small Pee Pees from some of the posts in here"
why do you say that, because we like high hp sports cars?
or because we are debating over cars?
pitbullstl said:ME.....and who uses Blue Book.......NO ONE. Sticker in 98' last year for your favored Supra, Twin Turbo loaded $52,985. RT/10..loaded $52,675.
Viper wins...Viper wins!!!
The Hennessy Twin Turbo, with the right driver runs 8.48 in the 1/4.
Lumberg said:Again you are arguing the wrong points. No one cares what the sticker prices were 6 years ago. The point is how much an average person could get the car for on the open market. You are a used car dealer. BFD. No one else on this thread is, so sorry, you have to use criteria that actually apply to the people with whom you are arguing.
powerforward, both of those links are to the same car. DOH!
also, where are your sources for those prices? In my scnario, there is no restriction on what year or condition of vehicle you start with. You get $70,000. You could spend it on a beater and build it up from scratch, or you could spend the full $70k on a fully prepped race car. Point is, one person has to start with Supra, the other person has to start with a Viper.
I honestly do not know who would win. The point I am making is, you guys are trying to argue a point that no one else cares about.
crak600 said:this is too damn retarded for me to even post on anymore. it's not even an intelligent conversation anymore.

Vipers are solid, fast ass cars, but you know what? I'm even more prejudiced against them now than I was before. And you know what else? You're right, idiots do keep you in business cos anyone dumb enough to buy a car from a blowhard like you MUST be an idiot.
You personify the stereotype of a sleazy used-car salesman. Glad handing your customers to their faces while snickering over their lack of mental capacity behind their backs and laughing at the their adherence to the Blue Book.
And people wonder why I tell them never to buy a car from a dealer, especially a used-car dealer.![]()
