vegetarian on gear

i start off by apologizing if this is in the wrong section (please feel free to move if pissing anyone off)- but responses are much better here.

so my buddy is a vegetarian and has been juicing for the past 2 years. dude looks amazing (sorry if that sounds gay) - but seriously, ripped and huge.

the guy eats super healthy, but no meat protein....so the question is...i'm thinking about switching up the diet to one similar to his.

anyone else out there a vegetarian using gear? (i'm kind of suspecting not)

my co worker is a true vegan though, but he is 125lbs soaking wet
 
yah - that's what i usually see with those guys too.

i can't figure out how this guy stays so huge other than obviously taking gear, muscle milk, eating tonnes of veggies.... and not to mention that he trains like an animal.

just because he doesn't get protein from animals doesn't mean he's not getting protein, probably a combination of good genetics, his training, and juice, i don't think i'd try a vegetarian diet just to try and look like him if that is your plan
 
Vegetarians can get proper protein but they require combinations of foods, I think Cal-Tech did a study of foods that would complete the chains. Shit, I can't remember. I'm a carnivore. But meals had to contain legumes, grains, and leafy greens, if I remember correctly.

Limas, lentils and other hearty beans were the basis of the diet.
 
Some vegans eat milk and eggs-I think it's called lacto Uvo vegan or something??? Anyway, Christian Duffy was a vegan and pro bb(a short lived one) and his sole protein source came from eggs-and he was 6 ft2 260lbs or so? Which was big for 10 yrs ago, and I guess today too??? depending on who you ask.

Oh yeah, Duffy started doing gay porn soon after he got his pro card. So maybe the added semen in his diet was a protein source as well? Chunky Man Chowder Soup!!

interesting....so vegeterian = homosexual....well that would explain why that veggie buddy is always so eager to spot me when i'm doing squats - not good!

i actually read some articles that indicate soy dramatically increases one's estrogen level....which again is not something that i am going for (although the little lady probably wouldn't mind me showing a little bit more emotion).

thanks for the input guys - it's been helpful (well... some of it)

correct no single plant has all the aminos to be a complete protien for humans
so combo meals are the only way to get what you need
think redbeans and rice as an example
as a strict vegan you must put in some serious thought to get lots of protein for muscle growth but it is of course possible

lacto ovo vegans have it much easier in the protein department as both eggs and milk contain complete proteins

no offence to my vegan bros but i prefer dead animals

Maybe he's lying? At one time he claimed to be natural too. You'd have to eat an assload (NPI)of beans/legumes to get even 100 grams of protein. I'd be eating, shitting and farting so much I'd have no time to train.

I am vegetarian right here. Stopped eating meat of any sorts for about 3 months now.

I do drink milk and eat eggs. I can't afford to let those go as a recreational BB.

During transition, YES, i did notice that it was taking longer for my muscles to recover after workouts. And YES, i did feel like i wasn't getting nutritious food for a while, and i always felt like i was hungry no matter what i was eating. Only eggs in the mornin was satisfying enough.

But hear this. After figuring out my diet eventually, there are no more complications of any sorts. Protien powder every four hours, mad milk and eggs. Lots of fruits, vegetable juice.

I am eating healthier than ever. I feel like i can lift mountains. A lot of energy in the gym.

I give it two thumbs up. There is no reason to believe that the meat everyone is eating is perfectly healthy and natural. All those crap hormones, and cattle feeding practices should really be considered, everytime you put meat in your mouth. Keeping all moral or spiritual reasons at a side.

That man knows more about weight training than anyone here. He's written some of the most widely respected books on the subject. I have a ton respect for him because he never stopped training.

Hormones like steriods? Most of us on here are already injecting that stuff into OUR bodies, so its not too much of a worry :rolleyes:

I think you can be in shape and big being a vegetarian, it just takes a lot more planning and work. I already put enough work into diet and exercise, why put up another roadblock?
