Vegetables - how important are they

So, lets say you get all your vitamines you need, what other purpous does vegetable serve, and how important are they to have in your diet?

Fruits and vegetables do more than just give you vitamins and minerals. Research shows they can provide protection from some forms of cancer, fight off and help prevent heart disease and stroke, protect against vision loss and protect against digestive ailments. There are also other nutrients such as anti-oxidants and phytochemicals that come from food. You would be hard pressed to find a medical professional or nutritionist who would advocate multi-vitamins instead of vegetables.

How are you getting most of your vitamins? Supplements? You gotta remember they are called supplements for a reason. Same reason why most people on here advocate eating meats/eggs/etc instead of basing your diet solely on protein powders for quality protein.

Nutrition is a lot more in depth than just categorizing things such as (saturated fat, protein, carbohydrates, vitamin C etc.) How do you tell the differences between a healthy and bad trans fat from reading the label? What about the absorption rate and GI index of a sugar? What about when the label tells you 10% Vitamin E? How do you know whether it's the superior D-Alpha-Tocopherol or the man-made Dl-Alpha-Tocopherol?

Also, almost all (with the exception of a few) fruits and veggies are alkalizing. Everything else (with the exception of very few again): dairy, grains, beans, animal protein, alcohol (especially beer), soda, coffee, etc...... are acidic. Your body strives for balance. If it's very acidic your body will do whatever it can to maintain its equilibrium. This means that it WILL start consuming things such as bone (calcium is very basic) and flush it out of your system. Here's an article about it:

and here's a list of many alkaline/acidic foods:

Btw, Popeye had it right, spinach is amazing :)

Also, look into green shakes if you hate all veggies. Start with mostly fruit and add in a little bit of veggies. Slowly increase the veggie to fruit ratio when you can handle the taste more. Your taste buds will change to start liking it.

fair enough:) ill go with 100gr of allmonds e3d and the 2 days off ill go with fruits and veggies for the same amount of kcals

I eat veg with every meal

vitamins
minerals
fibre

so many benefits, not just health but improving how your body utilises the nutrients you put into it

great to bulk out meals when your cutting too

Dont think that a multivitamin provides enough vitamins man. Maybe eating "your 5 a day" or taking a multi would cover the "recomended daily allowance" but you have to remember thats the recomended amount for a regular adult that performs every day tasks (ie doesnt put his body through hell at the gym 3-5 days a week!!) and eats 3 meals a day.

When you add more protein/carbs/fat than a regular person you have to bring up the vitamins, minerals, fibre and water intake accordingly.

only way to get the vitamins and minerals you need everyday to keep a healthy body.

vitamin pills just don't get absorbed, most out there are just ripoffs..... unfortunately life isn't as simple as taking a few pills a day and not having to eat. cannot stop millions of years of evolution.
