Let's hire more lazy post office workers and more lazy support personel for the US Post Office, so you can still , stand in line and be treated like a SH@&$ when you finally reach the counter to purchase stamps or send your packages , that is if the post office worker is not on his required 15 minute break per hour! Government waste at ts finest!!

Post Office posts $8.5 billion loss for last year - Business - U.S. business - msnbc.com

my wife works for USPS, she's anything but lazy my friend.

works 6 days a week 10+ hours, walks all day in snow, rain, whatever.

meanwhile the racist and greedy private sector parcel delivery service,
fedx (shout out sl) seems to be making money
Federal Express
2008 Revenue: $ 37,953 million
2008 Profit: $ 1,125 million
2009 Fortune 500 Rank: 59

they must be stopped!

They need to privatize the US post office so it can be run like a REAL business instead of a money losing entity! They need to do away with any unnecessary positions and return it to profitability. It's deplorable to see the waste that the US post office does! Lay the clock watchers off and have them fend for themselves!

That's because the preceding companies are operated like a business instead of a daycare for minorities and sub par workers, that can not function in a real business atmosphere.

I hear that. Lot's of polite and hardworking USPS workers. Always has been.

I think there once was a time when the PO was systemically pretty slack, but those days are long gone. Economic pressure from private carriers has forced top down change that was changed the place fundamentally. Still though they just can't compete in the marketplace.

I'm positive, she is an exemplary employee that works hard and takes pride in her career. It's sad that the majority of the other post office workers do not share in her work ethic! It's career minded employees such as your wife that pays the price for the shortcomings of her co-workers. I wish your wife the very best with her career.

The world isn't as black and white as that. It would be beneficial to itemize the reasons why it is failing and have a discussion about that.

here is one pretty obvious flaw, the USPS charges the same stamp rate for a parcel going across town or across country.
the price doesn't change

i think most of the angst is not directed to the actual mail carriers...they do a legit job and they always seem courteous and happy about their work.
it's the overhead and tangle of bureaucracy

Tru dat. That is a pretty obvious flaw. It sounds like a review of their business practices are in order.

Thanks, I didn't mean anything negative by my post towards you. Just sayin'

But thank you for your warm wishes.

There a few carriers that she works with that are older and should retire, but won't. They're slow and she always ends up having to pick up the slack for them. Almost daily she does her entire route and another half a route and then as if it weren't enough she'll have to go take some mail off of someone elses and finish that too.

She busts her ass, has been attacked by dogs and is out in the elements. I'd be pissed off all the time if I were her, but she loves her job and just has that bubbly personality.

The real shit of it is she doesn't have her own route. She is basically a "fill in". Therefor aside from the good pay she gets no benefits because she's not what the USPS calls a "carrier employee". She cannot get a route until one of these carriers that is basically too old to do the job effeciently retires. We're hoping that a route opens up for her soon because with the current state of the USPS her job could be terminated.

She is hired on a contractual basis that doesn't even guarantee hours. Only that if she's called into work they guarantee her atleast 4 hours of work. But since she's always needed she works 6 days per week 10 hours per day year round. Good news is they resigned her for another year so hopefully someone will retire this year and she'll move up the ranks.

omg usps service sucks!! i have had so many problems with their bullshit it aint even funny...bout time they fix it please

that depends on the person..but some of the fucks up.. u call and complain and nothing gets done about it..usps is horrible..atleast in my experiences

what are you calling to complain about?

i live in an apartment buidling..some of the workers are to lazy to carry the packages i order into the building..so they leave notes in my mailbox saying to pick it up at the post office because i wasnt home..meanwhile i was home but they never rang my bell

also sometimes if i'm not home, they dont write a note and leave it in my mailbox (which they are required to do)..so i have no idea my package is waiting for me at the post office and i dont even have postal card to go pick it up with for proof

these problems mostly happen when my main guy is off and a fill-in is working ..

i have had even worse problems with the workers at the pick-up windows at the headquarters but that is another story

bitch please...when I posted that reply I knew arabian didn't mean anything by it. He's a good bro.

now stfu.

I love Plank! He and I go way back on the board! We have even spoken to one another on the phone! Ok with that said, hit me with some k Plankster!! Lololololo

privatizing won't work unless you want people in rural and low income areas to stop getting service. Also won't work unless you want to mail $1.00 letters. Look how cheap cable and electricity is :)

We need to bail them out. I figure $50B to modernize would make them right as rain!

E-mail has killed letter sending, douchenozzles. Tell you what, go try to ship something FedEx for 40 cents.

word lol.

USPS posts $8B loss and it's so horrible. Wall Street posts $500B loss and no one bats an eye.

And then ur taxes pay out TRILLIONS in aid to Wall St and no one bitches. I bet if the USPS got a trillion, even though USPS provides far more benefit then Wall St. who simply pocket that trillion - people bitch about usps more.

People deserve the economy they get. That's how stupid people get treated. Bitch at Shaniqua for $300/month while Ed Williams Sr. the 3rd is raping your ass from behind.

No need to itemize, it's a government entity and therefore inefficient and wasteful by nature.:) The lack of a profit motive prevents the government from being efficient.

USPS people work HARD I know a husband and wife and they work harder the anyone I know

the only thing occasionally I have seen ( rarely) is the occasional bad USPS employee that causes issues, but any carrier has that.

I can't figure-out how anyone would expect otherwise.

I'll concede there are a few things government really should do: Going to war, building roads, providing police protection, etc. etc. But even huge chunks of that should be passed-on to the private sector.

Our government has set the stage for some of the largest ponzi schemes in the world -- some of which may ultimately bring-down the world economy. Yet people fall over themselves to give them more power.

As best I can guess, it's our innate lottery mentality. We have a strong inner urge to believe there's something out there that will constantly give us more than we put into it.

The flip side is by removing the profit motive an entity has less incentive to obtain more and more profit by any means necessary (scam, cheat, wall street, etc). But yea I think that would be best applied only to essential governmental functions that critically benefit society as a whole. The USPS not being one of those. Im sure the private delivery firms can find a way to deliver a letter for $.40 or whatever.

all this fed backlash i wonder if it will effect me?
my job could be contracted out, in fact it has been...but i think there is still
a need for fed employees in my field
at least i hope so

I think you're safe, plenty of other places to make cuts first.

Even if they outsourced it, wouldn't the new company snap you right up?

the fed offers more protection for injuries, and can
provide you other work.
say a tree falls on you (fatalities happen yearly) and you
are paralyzed...lotsa other income opps.
you work for a private bizz, and that's all they do...you are
fuct collecting disabillity for the rest of your life.
same with heart and lung issue from huffing nasty shit...
and of course the bennys and retirement wouldn't be as good.
as well the private bros are on call, slow season means making
no money at all.
can't have that i'd do something else

So the fed job is cushier than its private counterpart?

The USPS cited the lack of .40 cent letters as a reason for their loss...blamed e-mail and technology. I should also point out that all those bad things companies and individuals engage in to maximize profit are illegal. The SEC had at least three whistle blowers that lead to inquiries of Bernie Madoff but not full investigations...They accepted his cooked statements without a second thought; That's typical government awesomeness..
