I must to do a sociological study about the Spanish people and the vision that foreing people have about us.

So, I need your help.

The object of the study, it's know if the people of another countries think that:

1. Spaniards are white or not (obviate the inmigrants).
2. Spaniards are European or not.
3. Spaniard/ Spanish are the same than Hispan.
4. Spain it's the same that Mexico, Argentina or other South Americans countries.

i say people from Spain are def not the same as South AMericans just because they also speak spanish. thats like saying americans and irish are the same cuz we both speak english.

If the above is your studies' sole consideration, and based on the following passage; "The U.S. Office of Management and Budget currently defines "Hispanic or Latino" as "a person of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race"...I would have to agree that the race classification model of the US is a bit confusing. I'm also sure indigenous peoples of Mexico consider themselves Mexican rather than Spanish.

I'm an American (just to not be confusing with the username and country flag).

1. From what I have seen the northern Spanish are very often typical European looking with blonde hair blue eyes etc.. Whereas souther spanish(mediterranean) tend to be darker skinned with darker hair and eyes.

2. Spaniards are definitely Europeans.

3. The definition of hispanic I've always understood was that at some point some ancester of yours was Spanish.

4. No they are definitely different peoples. Mexico and most of South America is a mix of indigenous peoples and Europeans (mostly Spanish and Portuguese).

I don't think that there is even a common ethnic or racial group that makes up Spain. You have Basques in the north that are completely different ethnically from Catalans and Gallicians in the south. I don't think Spain even has a common dialect from region to region and I think the Basques in the north speak a dialect of French. Spain was a gigantic melting pot of Saracen Africans, Europeans, and Arabs during the Middle Ages.

So there you go. Now you know what I think of items 1 and 2.

As for items 3 and 4, Hispanic is a blanket term for cultures synthesized by conquering Spaniards and the aboriginees in the area they conquered. Hispanics are culturally different from one region to another. Mexican hispanics are a certain types of Native Americans (I forget which ethnicities) assimilated by and crossbred with the Conquistadors. Adding further variety to the ethnic mixes which make up hispanics would be the slave factor. I'm not sure how active Spain's African trade was, but I am pretty confident they imported African slaves which led to crossbreeding between the native Spainards, aboriginal native South Americans, and the imported African slaves.

1. Many Spaniards aren't completely of Euro descent. Spaniards are partially of Arabic ethnicity due to the Moorish occupation. Even my name, Sulma, while considered Spanish is also still used in Arabic speaking countries.

i don't know what a hispan is, maybe its some sort of Spanish bed pan.

either way, if you mean Hispanic, if you speak Spanish, i consider you hispan.

nobody is dumb enough to think Spain is the same as South American countries, because it is a European country,

i hope i shed some light on how stupid this thread and other social studies of similar politically correct/racial profiling are.

1. having never been to spain, i assume alotta spainards are of arabic/black descent so i don't think it would be easy to classify spainards as white.

spainairds are not full blown white, but fairly close. I also don't consider italian or greek white. They are definetely european...although you can argue there are differences in the mentality of say germany/hungary/france/netherlands. the mediterranian has its own subculture of europe pretty much

Spaniard is way different than just plain hispanic. You really can't compare someone from Spain to a Dominican or everyday mexican (Unless they're of pure spaniard descent, i.e. white)

no way in hell is spain the same as mexico or other south american countries. Spain doens't have any indians.

In the hispanic world, there are
1.) white hispanics/latin americans
2.) black
3.) indian

or combination. Spain has almost all white hispanics. They *are* the mother country pretty much. Just happened that they conquered other countries and fucked/raped the slaves and indians, which is why you have countries like Honduras, venezeula etc.
