my peoples if you with me where you at, smoking blunts, gettings caps, on the block with they gats.

It's a little disappointing that the TTC can strike whenever they want without any damage to them (other then public opinion).

you're lucky system is within walking distance.........if I didn't have a car and this thing would go on for a bit, I'd be fucked. So they're saying it'll be over by monday morning or are you just "hoping" it'll be over by than?

I'm actually hoping that it won't be over by Monday. Nothing beats the wrath of a Monday morning commuter.

If it continues by Monday, the union will lose alot of faith that the people have had in them and people would be more willing to tolerate scrub workers and mass firings for the TTC.

They closed down their service because the TTC was fearful of the lonely TTC worker who was getting abused by the drunk and disorderly.

I'm curious. What do they expect to happen now when the people come back and the drunk and disorderly are now PISSED beyond belief?

lmao

kind of ironic isn't it? Now, normal people are going to be abusive to the TTC workers when they do come back to work.

In a city of 2.5 million transit should be an essentail service and the shouldn't be able to strike. The thing that bothers me the most is that the strike hurts the lower income workers the most out of anyone. I can afford to take cabs or rent a car etc for a few days if I need to but a lot of people that take transit this is not the case. How the hell is someone making $7.50 an hour suppose to justify taking a cab that the far would likly equal 2-3 hours of there pay.

There is legislation going to be passed tomorrow forcing them back to work so yeah it could even be back up as fast as tomorrow night.

Yeah I was actually thinking the same thing to but like I said the problem is this affects low income people the worst.

The wildcat strike from a few years back was illegal, so why should they respond to legislation?

That's the best part. In a way, the union is 'kicking a person when they are down'. When that happens, the person being kicked will eventually kick back...

They will be fined $2000 a day if they don't pretty strong motivation to fall in line get back to work :)

Will the people themselves be fined or the union overall? When they went on the wildcat strike, I heard about how the union was 'fined'.

BTW, I've always loved your avi.

Whoaaaaah now. What about all those poor, downtrodden workers? C'mon now, aren't we all supposed to be in support of good old workin' joes? You canuks give-out free healthcare and all sorts of nice government goodies -- why not give these poor guys a little more?

Damn -- you guys have the *potential* for a tougher trip to work on Monday and all turn into mean-spirited Republicans. Hell, Ron Regan fired the air traffic controllers and was declared a monster. Guess what guys? Maybe you're all Regan Republicans after all.

It is the people themselves that get fined not the union.

If you are talking about the TTC workers they are far from poor some of the ticket collectors make upwards of 50k a year for sitting on there fat ass all day. The drivers I have respect as there is no way in shit I would want to ride some routes much less drive them.

LOL at the free goodies we give away with all do respect you haven't a clue. Our health care is free but at a cost to higher income earners as we are taxed the most. Regardless of how much you pay in you still get fucked in the end on waiting list for 6 months when you require surgery. I lived in the city for 9 years I have to go to clinics because I can't get a family Dr they are booked not aceppting new patiance and it is not just the big cities I have friends live in norhern ontario with the same problem.

I think that the sticking point is the fact that they gave no notice. I'm all for looking after the poor and downtrodden, but I'm also a believer in the 'rules'. If a person just decides to walk off the job with people still depending on that person, then I find it hard to defend that person.

As for the Monday morning commute, I don't care if they're back on the job or not. I'm good either way. I could see that others would care and and express their disdain.

However, if you're saying that we're all hypocrites. Well, that goes without saying...American...:D

Clearly, I picked the wrong job.

If they think they are going to get any sympathy from anyone walking out without notice basically blew that out of the water. It pisses me off only because this happens every few years and they decide to go on strike, holding the city basically hostage. It doesn't affect me but 70,000 people use the system to get to work every day and can't afford cabs and can't walk to work.

This whole strike business started because the workers were concerned that when they were assaulted on the job they were not compensated for time off. This issue has not been mentioned at all since. Now the maintenance workers are complaining because there is a chance their jobs could get outsourced (because they make WAY too much money for working 6 hours a day and sitting on their asses most of that time) and they are the ones that prompted turning down the agreement.

If it were up to me I would fire everyone who voted against accepting the agreement, which was completely fair for everyone involved. The TTC is always demanding more money from the city but god forbid their people actually work for a living.

I hope the government forces them back to work and then they face the abuse they deserve for striking without notice.

the point is that A) they were given a damn good deal and B) they walked out without the consentual 48 hour notice. I'm sure alot of people had to work on the weekend and were all of a sudden fucked by the lack of notice.

And reagan was right for firing air traffic controllers. There's some jobs you just have to understand are to crucial to unionize. You have to understand that before you take the job, end of discussion. Other free market jobs are another story though.

but alas, who fucking cares anymore.

ahh this will be fun for a monday morning rush. no TTC, 1 million people supposed to be at work. HAHA. so glad i'm not in Toronto at home. Studying abroad is the best

Government just passed back to work legislation, thank god. Get back in your booths and have a big dose of shut the fuck up and work, idiots.

The only problem will be at this point they now have to watch out for the abuse they are going to get for stranding so many people on a Friday night. Whenever I see one of these idiots wearing their union hats I want to smack them in the head.

Lots of mean-spirited people here trying to hold the workin' man down.

It is really hypocritical that the same governments that support an employees right to strike against a private employer then use emergency back-to-work legislation when it hits them.

Oh, and don't get me wrong -- I'm against all forms of organized labor anyway. Artificially fixing the price of labor is no better than artificially fixing the price of a miracle drug, a critical foodstuff or any other good or service.

Absolutely. That's why I wanted to strike to continue and for the people to push the government to decide what to do next (essential service or not).

hey im looking for a supplement (things not in stores) dealer in the toronto area, if anyone knows any, please send me a msg and hook me up :)

they have the strongest fuckin union

Plus, they are paid less than the mississauga transit and have much worse hours, and that is one of teh reasons they strike

I love what Reagan did when the air traffic controllers went on strike, he fired them all!

I say fire these pricks and hire people who want to work. I hate unions!
