How long do you think the transit strike will go? How many of you are affected by it?

superqt4u2nv said:It will be over before the Monday morning rush. I had a zip car booked for today before it happend had to run earends etc. The gym and all that is in walking distance and if it goes longer there is someone from work I can car pool with.
I'm actually hoping that it won't be over by Monday. Nothing beats the wrath of a Monday morning commuter.redsamurai said:you're lucky system is within walking distance.........if I didn't have a car and this thing would go on for a bit, I'd be fucked. So they're saying it'll be over by monday morning or are you just "hoping" it'll be over by than?
EnderJE said:They closed down their service because the TTC was fearful of the lonely TTC worker who was getting abused by the drunk and disorderly.
I'm curious. What do they expect to happen now when the people come back and the drunk and disorderly are now PISSED beyond belief?
lmao
There is legislation going to be passed tomorrow forcing them back to work so yeah it could even be back up as fast as tomorrow night.redsamurai said:you're lucky system is within walking distance.........if I didn't have a car and this thing would go on for a bit, I'd be fucked. Yeah I was actually thinking the same thing to but like I said the problem is this affects low income people the worst.EnderJE said:If it continues by Monday, the union will lose alot of faith that the people have had in them and people would be more willing to tolerate scrub workers and mass firings for the TTC.
The wildcat strike from a few years back was illegal, so why should they respond to legislation?superqt4u2nv said:There is legislation going to be passed tomorrow forcing them back to work so yeah it could even be back up as fast as tomorrow night.
That's the best part. In a way, the union is 'kicking a person when they are down'. When that happens, the person being kicked will eventually kick back...superqt4u2nv said:Yeah I was actually thinking the same thing to but like I said the problem is this affects low income people the worst.
They will be fined $2000 a day if they don't pretty strong motivation to fall in line get back to workEnderJE said:The wildcat strike from a few years back was illegal, so why should they respond to legislation?

Will the people themselves be fined or the union overall? When they went on the wildcat strike, I heard about how the union was 'fined'.superqt4u2nv said:They will be fined $2000 a day if they don't pretty strong motivation to fall in line get back to work![]()
It is the people themselves that get fined not the union.EnderJE said:Will the people themselves be fined or the union overall? When they went on the wildcat strike, I heard about how the union was 'fined'.
BTW, I've always loved your avi.
If you are talking about the TTC workers they are far from poor some of the ticket collectors make upwards of 50k a year for sitting on there fat ass all day. The drivers I have respect as there is no way in shit I would want to ride some routes much less drive them.mrplunkey said:Whoaaaaah now. What about all those poor, downtrodden workers? C'mon now, aren't we all supposed to be in support of good old workin' joes? You canuks give-out free healthcare and all sorts of nice government goodies -- why not give these poor guys a little more?
Damn -- you guys have the *potential* for a tougher trip to work on Monday and all turn into mean-spirited Republicans. Hell, Ron Regan fired the air traffic controllers and was declared a monster. Guess what guys? Maybe you're all Regan Republicans after all.
I think that the sticking point is the fact that they gave no notice. I'm all for looking after the poor and downtrodden, but I'm also a believer in the 'rules'. If a person just decides to walk off the job with people still depending on that person, then I find it hard to defend that person.mrplunkey said:Whoaaaaah now. Clearly, I picked the wrong job.superqt4u2nv said:If you are talking about the TTC workers they are far from poor some of the ticket collectors make upwards of 50k a year for sitting on there fat ass all day. LOL at the free goodies we give away with all do respect you haven't a clue. Our health care is free but at a cost to higher income earners as we are taxed the most. Regardless of how much you pay in you still get fucked in the end on waiting list for 6 months when you require surgery. I lived in the city for 9 years I have to go to clinics because I can't get a family Dr they are booked not aceppting new patiance and it is not just the big cities I have friends live in norhern ontario with the same problem.

Absolutely. That's why I wanted to strike to continue and for the people to push the government to decide what to do next (essential service or not).mrplunkey said:It is really hypocritical that the same governments that support an employees right to strike against a private employer then use emergency back-to-work legislation when it hits them.

I love what Reagan did when the air traffic controllers went on strike, he fired them all!
I say fire these pricks and hire people who want to work. I hate unions!
