too much ab fat - late carbs to blame!?

been bulking for a while now although I'm putting on more abdominal fat than I have in the past, bothering me a bit. I've pretty much dropped cardio because people on here insist its best to sack it off during a bulk due to the calories it uses up.

I dont pay that much attention to the no carbs at night rule - am I being a bit silly here? I certainly have less carbs before bed, but usually have a 100g oat shake maybe 1.5hrs before bed, sometimes closer, sometimes have a smaller amount of carbs but again right before bed.

Could this be the culprit? Any advice much appreciated :)

100g carb shake seems a bit much, also i would implement some hit cardio in 10 min or so a day......trying to keep your carbs low and protein and fat a bit higher before bed might help imo

Ive read conflicting things about carbs before bed REALLY having that much of an impact of fat gain...i do think 100g is a bit excessive though.

and HIIT like gymjunkie said is OK because ur not gonna be in a state where ur using muscle for energy after only 10 minutes....jus look at sprinters they are huge and long distance runners are scrawny.

maybe have the oats in the AM instead of the PM and replace the oats with some cottage cheese/casein shake

thanks for the replies guys.

I actually already have the ground up oats in morning as well as afternoon! 3x a day usually, easy carb source. But ok will drop it down to maybe 50g at night. I'm not great with thinking of meal ideas, usually just have a mixture of chicken/tuna/mackerel/rice/pasta/oats every single day.

See I always thought HIIT was a good form of cardio if you are looking to cut fat (which sure I am, but on a bulk you cant really do both right?) ? However, if it reduces the fat gain and doesnt affect muscle growth I am ALL FOR IT :D

what would you suggest, HIIT for ten mins on a treadmill (30secs sprint, 30sec jog) 2x per week? Or more? Bear in mind I am trying to add as much mass as possible.

Thanks in advance.

Yes bro 2x a week should be good. You can always up it. I think the ultimate body comes from more food + more exercise. Youre more of a machine that way imo. Rather than eating less to cut weight that way, then youre gonna have shitty workouts and lose muscle.

i hate HIIT on a treadmill its hard to keep moving the speeds up and down, id get on a bike
