To all MARTIAL ARTISTS

I remember he had surgery going on, and was going to be out of the game for awhile, or forever. I think he finally decided to throw in the towel, though we all encouraged him to stay. I know I was one of 'em, then I left for a couple months. I came back and a lot changed. Louden disappeared too, and I rather liked him. Glad to see some of the big boys are still here. Suston, B, and a new addition - WalkingBeast.

What ever happened to Jeremys?

is there a right martial art. i've been considering taking up some sort of self defense classes. i used to go to a karate class in my younger days but that's past. i may sound like a newb here but anyhow which martial art would be a good choice to learn?
i've read up on many many different arts, some of which i've never heard in my life and i'm a bit confused as to which route i should take. any recommendations?

Bring it on, my sifu would beat the crap out of your pansy instructor and i would whoop your mma ass, so come get some.

Ask any decent fighter and they will tell you that kickboxing and Muay Thai are great for brushing up on your striking skills and will definetly give you an edge in other martial arts but are pretty much useless on the street

.....and countless others that were so disrespectful they had to be deleted.

You are the reason I wrote this thread.

Could our friendly neighborhood mods please lock this thread. I just wanted it to clean up the board a little, and help out with my personal perspective, if it helped. I don't want crap from certain individuals ruining that. Thanks

being a muay thai fighter, wtf? J/J, I read who posted it and thats a joke!! Happy to see that there is a martial arts section on a bbing forum!!

Can I hijack this offer of advice?

I am looking for confidence, balance and the ability to both defend myself with extreme confidence. I am fast, strong, a bit too big compared to most MA I have seen and have never been in a serious fight in my 39 years.

Should I buy a gun? Is there hope for an almost 40 yr old to start?

Never too late to start. I would say Boxing would be a good start, you have to find a coach that will take you serious enough to teach you the right skills and won't write you off just cause of your age... Most boxing trainers are looking for their next "star" and their regular clients are just a way to pay the bills till their next Golden Boy matures... You have to find a dude that will care wether or not you can defend yourself with the stuff he is teaching you....

PS: Try to find Krav Maga... it is great for all ages and body types.

Thanks, Rick. I know guy here that is a sensational trainer/competitor/coach that owns a great gym that trains mostly ... Talked to him this afternoon, He wants to start me on what he called 'Thai Boxing' (did he mean Muay Thai?) He said it will help with getting me into fighting shape and get me going in the right direction.... should also get me aquainted with pain... LOL...

Muay Thai AKA Thaiboxing is my forte... I think is probably the most effective art outhere(that is just my opinion). If you are holding a bit of extra weight and not really flexible, you might have hard time getting the hang of some of the kicks and knee strikes...
I think it is never too late to start and you should give it your all...

Flexability is not a serious problem, I can touch nose to knee, can't do full spits anymore, but soon come, mon, soon come.

My man says that that extra cheflisize will come off like Shelly's tshirt in front of a web cam once he gets me on the mat regularly.

I am REALLY looking forward to it...

Q: Gear. I am traveling to the states for a month+ soon and would save a bundle if gear needed was purchased there. What do I need? Anything? Can you say NEWBIE and hear the echo around me?
