Threads with Polls

blut wump

New member
Ok, I can see that they might be fun. After the first day, though, the fun kind of pales and you click on a thread to find there's nothing new in it except that someone voted which I can't see, anyway, since the chance that I've voted is about zero.

I'd like to make a small request: there's an option on making a poll-thread to have it time-out after some selectable period. Please use this feature and make the period short.

Thanks for your cooperation. :)

I think eveyone here agrees with you on this and this was supposed to be implemented, but nothing has been done about it.

Again, we need a mod for this section of the board that is here and willing/ has time to maintain the section on a daily basis.

Amen to that. We have a great mod but having him in absentia does us no good at all.

Do all mods have access to the whole board or can they be restricted to one forum such as this one? I wouldn't have thought it'd be a big deal to make a regular to this forum a mod in here, but I can't see them creating a new mod if that person would have free reign over the whole board.

It is possable for a mod to only have "mod powers" in this forum and be a regular member in all others... It literally takes a click of a mouse to do it.

This thread was long overdue; apparently Guinness's poll was too ironic/playful to get the point across. These anonymous polls that record votes over periods of months/years serve no purpose whatsoever.

To nobody's surprise, given my periodic and somewhat facetious advocacy of my own candidacy, I agree about the need for a training forum mod (or mods). Would this call for a bump of that "Any input..." thread in which we constructed the sticky?

IMO, polls shouldn't be allowed at all on this forum (actually any forum 'cept C&C). and yea, we do need a mod... CS is a good choice for that... anybody listening?

I'm listening.

Bump.

We've been abandoned. The Bookie forum and the Science forum are completely without mods. At least we have one even if he's mostly a figurehead

It's strange that on a cite as busy as EF, it's rare for a mod to even stick their head in this forum. There have been multiple issues/complaints raised in various threads which then sink to page 2, and you're telling me that not a single mod has happened to even stop by during those times and catch those threads? Weird. We did have some results w/ the training vault sticky, but otherwise, it's weird that mods are totally absent. Seems reasonable to make a mod out of one guy w/ some brains and interest in training. there are some on the 'net I've heard.

I sometimes wonder whether it's down to the paucity of Plat members in here. In AAS most of them are Plat and they have about four mods on there in any given day. C&C similarly. I think there's an unwritten policy of not making non-Plats into mods.

Of they won't give it to CS becasue he's not plat, then they should make either you (BW) or silver_shadow (or both), mods of his section.
You're both here multable times a day and want the best for the forum.

We need someone to keep thigs in check, and get rid of the bull shit like the rediculous "I need abs in 2 weeks" threads and the lame ass polls..

'Tis rather odd that the forum that follows AAS and C&C in number of views (although all three are dwarfed by Pictures of Women  ) doesn't have any regular mods. Along with AAS (and to a lesser extent Diet and Supplements), this is probably the forum through which most people (and thus revenue from sales of ads and Plats/services/ebooks) come to the site.

This (and until last week, the stickies) has been a long-standing issue; I suppose we'll just have to be persistent about it as we were with the sticky.

That's interesting. How many non-plat mods are there, just out of interest?

If that's what it takes though, make BW a mod. I don't really care who it is, so long as it's a regular and they have our common interests at heart.

hey guys, sorry i haven't been here as much as I used to- my training has slowed down from an injury, and I'm usually busy.

I agree that polls should have an ending date. bumping polls has always been a problem because its anonymous.

if there is a poll that gets bumped, and I don't see it, please pm me and I'll lock it.

Is that you or roadkill in your avatar? :FRlol:

One of the concerns voiced here is exactly what you admit to - mods aren't here a lot of the time. Why not make one of the training forum regulars a mod in here?

I do have to say at least you do check in form time to time and actually do something. So props to that.

It would just be nice to have one of the regulars to this section like BW CS or SS that are willing to do the job and spend the time it takes.

thanks, but I was never made a mod, elite wont have me as one for some reason, I was made a mentor

^^For mod...needsize as well

Agreed. There's no point making a non-training forum regular a mod in the training forum.

I'm sure Needsize is a great guy, but he doesn't post in here.

What are you talking about? I'm not a mod yet.

I'm God, but not mod.

I'm not letting up until you guys nominate me, god dammit.

I'm not here today so am unable to comment.

This has been an automated response. kthnxbye.

Good look, Mr. God, sir.

NS doesn't post much these days, coz he and his wife just had a kid i believe :)

Seomthing to bear in mind is that we don't need a guru as a mod. We have plenty around and likely always shall. What we need is someone who is here regularly, knows enough of the regulars to be able to point anyone in the right direction whether they be newbie or elite and is willing to put in time to keep the stickies in order so that everyone can find needed information. They don't even need to be the one who writes the stickies so long as they can keep them in order with everyone's help. A thick enough skin to handle some expected abuse is probably needed, too.

Anything else, really, is just a bonus, including closing polls. ;)

Anyone know if its even possible to give someone mod powers over just one forum? Someone said it is possible but has that been verified? Just curious.

Second, how the hell would we go about picking the "right" person? We've got a handful of solid regulars that could handle the job and I don't wanna' see it get ugly.

Who is it up to?

We got ourselves a nice new training vault sticky. Why not try to get ourselves a new regular mod?!

its up to admins and it is being discussed.
the training sticky btw- you guys should thank cynical simian for that. He's responsible for putting it together- i just did some fixing up and stuck it.

I have said this 10,000 times.

the REASON that more folks/mods/vets DO NOT post here these days is the general attitude of a lot of the members. Do a search for myself, bfold, spatts etc. There was a notable dropoff in posting production because every high schooler and his cousin were trying to be tough guys and arguing with every other fucking post.

You guys bitch about wanting a mod on this board - with the general attitue - Im not sure who would want it

We've not had any of that type of grief here for a very long time. It was disappearing about the time I joined and the Bill Starr 5x5 trend was taking over, courtesy of Madcow2. These days we pretty much all just get along, concentrating on training for functional strength. The HIT guys are long gone and all that's left here are the powerlifters, a couple or so Oly lifters and lots of guys who just want to concentrate on gettng stronger with a few who are a little more concerned with what the mirror shows.

Mostly we're all cool here. I think the general attitude amongst most of us is that we don't particularly want to mod but there are various things that a mod is needed for and so someone has to do it and a goodly handful are reluctant but willing.

Ideally, we'd have a couple of mods.

that is one of the reasons, having someone with a few months training experience, telling me I didnt know what i was doing, and that kind of crap happening all the time, sort of dampened my enthusiasm for posting..I used to post in this form every day...that was when most of the vets disappeared...I also do have a two year old son who takes up a lot of my time too

Yep....and while I appreciate Blut's posts - I'm not sure I entirely agree with the current state of the board....but - its just a difference of opinion.

I passed along to admin those whom I think would do a great job as mods....assuming they would accept.

i don't know about the bitching bro, i've been here some time as you can see and there isn't too much bitching around here... pretty much the only time you will see some flaming here nowadays is if some assclown posts (for example we had some guy called sidney who questioned some of the numbers posted by some of the vets who post regularly). i think most of the regulars know who the knowledgeable guys/vets are... like biggt, illuminati, blutwump, cynical simian, pendlay, tweakle, chambewy just to name a few. as blutwump said, we pretty much get along with each other... in contrast i have always seen more bitching/estrogen in the AAS forum... pretty ironic.

Maybe its the way in which vets like myself and Need etc view the forum now versus a while back.....

Shadow, I PMed you....Most boards have ups and downs and members come and go....really, for the most part, the training board is very constructive. I have only really been posting about a year or so, but the reason I started was the training board and the work ethic, and focus on actual training over gimmicks and products etc, and most everybody does get along, .....people with goals using common sense to accomplish them rather than buying into FLEX mag type BS ...I can only speak for what I saw the past year in all fairness. Things may have been bad prior to that and they may have even been better prior to them being worse, I can't say obviously, but there really isn't a lot of teenage behavior and childish flaming or anything at all like that as a WHOLE.

Another thing, which goes with the territority, is Elite generally 'sells' to people who generally act like douche bags......it's selling points are sex, 'get big quick' secrets, and AAS.....generally those are things 16 year olds are looking for on the net....so you'll get an influx of morons......but they usually make some posts and move on to bb.com or someplace where they can really run rampant, I'd say 70% of the training board is a good, solid place though.

I am fairly new here compared to most people, but ever since I joined at the beginning of the year this board has been nothing but an exceptional wealth of information.

The core members here that currently post on a daily basis are extremely helpful and know their shit. When looking for a training board I came cross so many shitty boards like bb.com where no one knew a thing about training and they were all about doing more crunches to get rid of the fat around their abs, and 100 sets of curls for the pump.

This board was the light at the end of the tunnel, no bull shit, just good people that know about good training, vets that are willing to share that info with others. It has completely changed my mind set on training and I am much more informed now then before.

I don't know what it was like before i got here, but aside form a few noobs showing up asking ridiculous questions, trying to get us to rate their gay pics, this board is a serious training board.

The members here already have big plans for the growth of the board like the training vault, the video sticky etc. We just seed someone that is here every day and understands the direction the members want to take this forum. And to clean up the crap that shows up every once in a while.

There area few good candidates for the mod job, the names were already posted somewhere...

blut wump, Cynical Simian & silver_shadow any of these people would be a good choice, or even all 3.

Let's put it behind us and make it better than ever

That shouldnt be a problem, its nice to just be back on elite and killing the weights again.

Word....I'm getting over some injuries but I'm already back up to the 90's on incline presses.

I asked for something to be done about the polls back when I was a mod, either time limits, or a mod. to the program that requires a post to bump a thread, not just a vote.

As for mods here, I still stick with one of the ones I recommended when I stepped down, bignate.

One word: Madcow. I’m pretty new here, and was drawn here by Madcow’s writings. I’d guess he shifted this board’s tide and probably irked some “senior” members in the process. In the meantime, I’ve been mostly pleased by this board, even in MC’s absence. As BiggT stated, we get some BB.com’rs, but they generally run off pretty quick, and with the addition of things like AI’s advice column, their life on the training forum will be shortlived. But when guys show up needing genuine advice and aren’t total tards, they get solid advice and support from knowledgeable folks. There are no snake oil salesmen here.

BiggT said:

It’d be 80% if I left. LoL

mad cow definitely had some very informative posts

i, and other mods have suggested them... once we suggest them, its up to brr and george to make the decision- i don't know what they are doing about it.

Indeed, DJ, it's my understanding that the mods have been discussing new mods for at least two months now. It's entirely down to the Admins and George Spellwin. Even Elite Mods can't appoint new mods.
