This article proves to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that sony is facking retarded...

Re: This article proves to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that sony is facking retarde

dude, don't buy one....unless you're getting it for the blu ray. Games wise there isn't shit. Killzone is their best shooter but you can beat it in like 8 hours if you'r good, 10 if you're fair. So basically unless you LOVE going online to play shooters, it ain't worth it. I'm not too terribly fond of the 360 either, but as of right now it's got WAY better games.

If you've got the scratch, I would actually recommend building a high power computer right now. The console game market is slumping in quality and doesn't appear to be coming back anytime soon.....unless you're a madden and/or GTA mark. I personally never gave a crap about those games so :whatever:

Ok Red you call me a fanboy but some of your posts are so biased I can't take them seriously anymore lol. Madden and/or GTA? Shit according to the majority of gamers those were a couple of the most overrated titles out last year. A couple of rehashed sequels inflated to no end by media hype. Take a look around message forums or google "GTA IV overrated" or "GTA IV disappointment" to see what I mean.

Like it or not, recent PS3 exclusives are the high point of console gaming. Most journalists who've been in the industry longer than Halo will agree. I don't even have a console anymore so it doesn't phase me really; I just gotta call 'em like I see 'em.

Re: This article proves to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that sony is facking retarde

SONY dominates, anyone who says different is jealous or can't afford one of their products

sour grapes at its finest

sony dominates the hairy gay ass, that's it.

Re: This article proves to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that sony is facking retarde

they just irritate me, always have. And I'd like to see documentation about killzone only putting 60% on the cell chip. That yet again smells like the good ole sony hype machine. And that's what I'm tired of. It is my sincerest suspicion that the ps3 is only fractionally superior in hardware to the 360. I think in the end you'll be able to take the best looking 360 game and the best looking ps3 game and only be able to tell a difference by getting your face an inch away from the screen. This is how sony rolls, has for awhile now. I think microsoft went the right direction in making their GPU the main component of the console, whereas sony has a weaker GPU but a "theoretically" much more powerful CPU setup. It's just easier for developers to work with the GPU setup than to have to rely more heavily on the CPU for graphical functions. It can be done, but I suspect that's the reason why the ps3 is hard to deveolop for. Stringing imaging tasks between the CPU and GPU becomes a major pain in the ass from what I've read. So that's why I'm very highly skeptical of that figure on killzone. There's no way that game is only taxing the cell chip sixty percent when the chip does most of the heavy lifting for the graphics PLUS all it's regular physics and AI duties.

Lol, damn man what did Sony do to you? Those are some pretty outlandish statements. Guerrilla started development on Killzone 2 after the CGI trailer in spring of '05. That was by far the longest incubation for any PS3 game to date, and was still less than 4 years. It also turned out to look better than the CGI trailer so most would say it was worth it. The 10 year plan is mostly right though, and if you asked consumers most of them would agree it's a good thing.

Re: This article proves to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that sony is facking retarde

Yeah but those games are console sellers. You bet that next year, despite those games mediocrity this year...........next year people will be lining up to buy em again. :whatever:

Re: This article proves to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that sony is facking retarde

Games make a console, but if the game is good - it can be good on ANY console.

and if it's good on a console, imagine how GREAT it would've been if the developers didn't spend 50% of their time digging through crappy documentation trying to figure out how to make sprite A move towards sprite B.

Since PC games are the easiest to develop - it's no surprise why any SERIOUS gamer will always prefer PC gaming over consoles. The games are 10000x better since the tools for PC gaming development are far far more mature and tested. Allowing companies to spend more time being creative than figuring out how to move Sprite A towards Sprite B. You won't see World of Warcraft on PS3 anymore. And more people play WoW every night than PS3 people play in a week.

A console maker gains NOTHING by making it harder for people to develop games on their system - except making it easier for your competitors. This seems nothing like control, similar to how Apple is the only people allowed to make apply computers. Seems Sony wanted to shut-out developers, perhaps strong-arm a more higher-fee'd subscription services, their own japanse gaming division, who knows what their plan was.

Thank God for Steam. Go into any game retailer and look at the walls of console titles.......then look at the PC game rack. It makes the porno stand at the local gas station look like Barnes and Noble. The problem with PC gaming (as far as popularity at least) is first and foremost it requires at least "some" resourcefulness from its userbase, when the vast majority of gamers just want to "plug and play". I downloaded Silent Hill: Homecoming off of Steam (for $20 bucks less than the console crowd pays) and according to the reviews the PC version is a "last resort". But thanks to the versatility of the PC all those shortcomings mentioned can be overcome if you're willing to spend a few minutes to look for a solution. Now the game is just as good if not better, and wasn't even optimized for PC to begin with. I can play on my monitor at higher resolutions or hook up my rig through HDMI on my TV and play in 5.1 with a Dualshock2 running through Xpadder, or a wireless 360/Dualshock 3 if I wanted to. PC gamers can have their cake and eat it too, but it often requires a little extra effort. Even lazy ports can often be made superior than the console titles they are based off of.

As for consoles, most PS3 exclusives (think MGS4, Uncharted, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Heavy Rain, etc.) have set a high water mark one way or another for console titles, both technically and creatively, and most gamers and critics alike who've played them agree. Xbox 360 may be far easier to develop for, but what do they have to show for it? Halo 3? (old news). Gears of War 2? (pretty, but also pretty uninspired when pitted against a title like MGS4 or Killzone 2). Not to mention those games could be so much better on PC if Microsoft wasn't determined to enter the console market to "crush Sony".

It's also tough to believe people still pay for Xbox Live considering PSN is catching up to it for free, with dedicated lag-free servers for PS3 exclusives. 60 player death matches in Resistance 2 or 32 player in Killzone 2 destroys the buggy, glitchy 10 player mess of Gears 2 that Epic's been trying to patch since launch. Check any gaming forum. Without Microsoft's genius marketing team, Xbox 360 wouldn't have enough substance or quality to compete this generation. Xbox Live is their ace in the hole, as long as they can keep people paying for it. Microsoft should really take a step back and rethink their goals, or at least their motives for obtaining them. A company that was built on computer software could make PC gaming (not to mention their OS's) so much better than they currently are if they cared as much for them as they do Xbox.

I agree that Sony has talked a big talk ever since early PS2 days, and they definitely needed that humbling PS3 launch, but practically everyone agrees they delivered in games like MGS 4 and Killzone 2. That old CGI trailer looks simplistic to what they managed to put in-game. Everyone back then laughed when they found out it was CG and said yeah good luck with that lol.

This is the best I could do for reference on the 60% number-

There's much more to the Killzone 2 engine than deferred rendering and screen passes; in fact, Arjan mentioned that every composite that is rendered within the game is placed solely upon the SPUs to lock in the framerate at a solid 30 FPS. During small battles, one or two SPUs will pick up a majority of the action, but during heavy firefights with large explosions and numerous characters onscreen, all six SPUs will pick up the load and balance everything accurately. Surprisingly, even within the heaviest firefight onscreen, Arjan pointed out that the largest load on each one of the SPUs didn't exceed 60%, which ensured that the framerate remained consistent throughout the game. On top of this, Arjan pointed out everything from light bloom and internal lens reflection effects to true geometric particles that fly from walls and collide with the ground realistically based on the direction of an explosion.

IGN: Killzone 2 Preview

The dev mentioned it in a developer diary video too but basically it's no more "proof" than the above.

Wait for Uncharted 2. Naughty Dog says they want to use 100% or damn close to it! In the end though it doesn't mean much. Kojima said they were maxing out the Cell in MGS 4 but then later said, yeah they could've done things differently, more efficiently. He also said he had to re-do a lot of his underlings' work on the game because they weren't quite as up to the task as he originally thought they were lol.

Even with that logic - PC games > Console games. You will NEVER see a World of Warcraft or Everquest on a ps3.

Hell, more people play mafia wars on myspace than any ps3 game any night!

PC > Consoles. Keyboard/Mouse > Joysticks.

Re: This article proves to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that sony is facking retarde

aren't all the sports games that are on consoles out for PC too? I know they probably come out 6-12 months later, but who cares? Now that you can get a PS3 or 360 controller for the PC, sports games and fighting games can be played........plus you have access to free servers for online play. This is why I'm going back to PC games.........as soon as my stocks pick up again that is...lol.

Re: This article proves to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that sony is facking retarde

lmfao, buncha nerds up in here

red, you're biased after watching that "Sony releases the biggest piece of shit that doesn't fucking work" vid, lmao....

I bought an xbox that red ringed the fuck outta me, sent in 4 times over the duration of the warranty. Know how long each repair lasted?

About 3 days.

Still, went out and bought a another xbox...elite this time, no problems. I bought it because all my friends have one, that works, and I want to play online with them. I don't give a shit about sports game. Sure I'll buy Madden or whatever when the football season comes up, but I won't play it online. I buy it for the shooters. With PS3, you can't even form groups to play & speak with your friends (COD4). Idiotic.

Also, hate the PS controller. Sorry ain't buying one in the future. I dropped over $750 total on Xbox consoles alone. Not seeing my mind change any time soon either. Main reason, my friends have it, I know how to dominate with it.

and this is why I never bought a 360. I'll play it over at friends houses, but i"m not paying for shit like that. That's why I'm not a fanboy, I really don't like this generation of consoles whatsoever. I've played good games on the 360 and the wii, but nothing that would prompt me to actually buy one.
