I've been doing some reading up on antibiotics for abscesses (mostly related to Amoxicillin) and basically what I came up with that if one gets an abscess they should take 45 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 12 hours or 40 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 8 hours for as long as 48 to 72 hours beyond the time that the patient becomes asymptomatic or evidence of bacterial eradication has been obtained...or 10 days. I
’m curious to what others here have been prescribed when they have had an abscess.
An interesting site I an across was "The Rat Guide" (no shit!) I got a laugh from this because of all of the research stuff we are constantly giving our 'rats'. Here is an excerpt on abscesses and antibiotics for treatment:
http://ratguide.com/health/integumentary_skin/abscess.php
It actually has some good general info regarding abscesses (and some actual pictures of rats w/ abscesses)
