long story short, this bug has been around for a long time. it generally lives in hospitals or other centres of really sick people, like nursing homes. infection of young healthy peopel is quite common - its jsut that young helathy peopel have awesome immune systems that kill it, along with 378438963742 other bugs that assault your body everyday.
more and more peopel will die fromt his bug because 1) its getting more common and 2) people are getting older - so there are more people with shit immune systems around the place who will fall victim to this otherwise simple bacterium.
to control its spread all the community really needs to do is have good hygiene, and to reduce the number of situations where people are going to easily infect one another - which means more isolation of infected people, and more care to wash hands etc particularly in hospital/community settings.
those people worried about getting it at the gym need to chill out. inform your gym owner and get the equipment sterilized several times a day (there are many sprays that will do this, most of which are cheap, not this $15 a pop bullshit) including dumbbells, and insistence that people use towels etc
then so long as you eat and leep right and have an immune system that doesnt suck, youre fine.
also, the fastest growing disease in the world killing people is, as always...stupidity.
