Hiroshima didn't happen immediately after Pearl Harbor. There was a period of planning and positioning, much like now.

I've heard special forces ground troops may already be in Afganistan assisting the anti-Taliban forces. They've recently been experiencing their first consistent victories in years. We're just not gonna hear alot of what happens to keep the movement secure,as Bush said.

Hiroshima was 4.5 years later. Pearl harbor was about 1 month before we acted.

We are not doing much, maybe getting some intel. Trying to be tolerant of others, trying not to step on any toes and looking for world approval.

If we still had balls, we would have acted by now and not give a damn about the rest of the world.

So it is a different war, gimme a break. When in the last twenty years have we staunchly and without wavering defended ourselves no matter what the rest of the world says. Not once. Almost 7,000 dead Americans in less than twenty minutes and we are fighting a new war. Bullshit.



We need to act, we have had more than enough time for Powell's coalition. We don't need the UN mucking things up.

Only Britain has stood with us time and time again. The time for talk and coalitions is over. We must act now or history will weep for us.

Blair: Afghanistan strikes set to begin

Tony Blair is to declare that Taliban rulers have had their chance to surrender Osama bin Laden and military strikes will now begin inside Afghanistan.

Mr Blair will use his speech to Labour's conference at Brighton on Tuesday to say that civilian casualties will be avoided, if humanly possible, in the raids.

But he will hand out the starkest warning yet from any coalition nation leader that military action is about to begin.

The Prime Minister will tell 3,000 party delegates in Brighton that the action will be proportionate and targeted and insist that "we will do what we humanly can" to avoid civilian casualties.

The strikes will be directed at the military installations and the training camps of bin Laden and the Taliban troops' supplies and finances, Mr Blair will say.

Mr Blair will tell the conference that the Kabul regime had the chance to surrender the "terrorists" and chose not to do so. He will explain that the strikes will now target military "hardware", disrupt supplies and attack Taliban troops.

The premier appears to be setting the scene for a major military campaign involving US and possibly British forces.

But he will also use his speech to stress the importance of some good coming from the "evil" events of September 11, with the world community drawing together in the wake of the suicide hijackings in the US.

Mr Blair will emphasise the importance of the "humanitarian coalition", formed in the wake of the terror attacks to deal with the Afghan refugee crisis. He will also stress the need for the Middle East peace process to be driven forward.

Sources say as much of his speech will focus on the domestic agenda as on the international situation.
