I've been listening to this stuff for the last 3 days. Beyond the improved tonality, it's just mindblowing how good they were. One great song after the next and the next and the next. It's ridiculous.
I guess I heard some Beatles songs accidentally here and there most of my life, but never gave them a minute. I think it was January of this year though, Mr. dB posted a link to their rooftop concert to commemorate it's anniversary and I was digging on it. The second song Don't Bring me Down I guess it was called, damn. Groovy shit
the beatles are a boy band. When they came out they were the nsync of today. Hated by anyone who wasn't a screaming 16 y/o girl! lol. I go see bands nowadays that play to 98% males btw. Then again i listen to shaqira so whaddya i know lol.

You are clueless. You weren't there, you don't know. You have no idea.
One of the reasons for The Beatles' success then, and continuing popularity 46 years later, was that their material worked on multiple levels. Sort of like the way Warner Brothers cartoons had visual humor for the kids, and great jokes for the adults too. The Beatles may have had the cuteness and the love songs for the girls, but they also had great songwriting and melodicism and cool instrumental sounds for the music lovers.
And they changed the way pop music was made, taking at least some power from the producers and A&R men (remember, A&R stands for "Artists and repertoire"...) and claiming it for themselves. Prior to The Beatles, the norm was for an artist to sing a song that a professional songwriter wrote, and have studio musicians play the music. The Beatles were self contained, they sang the songs, wrote the songs, and played the instruments themselves.
The day after they appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, every boy in America combed his hair forward and asked his parents for a guitar.
So yeah Nelson, I bought both the mono and stereo box sets, had 'em on order from Amazon two months before they shipped. From the two sets, the big winner is the stereo CD of "Beatles For Sale", that one turned out really well. Sound quality on that one is just over the top good.

So your telling me Nsync writes their own music? Another note whens the last time you seen a Nsync member play a musical instrument? Hand one of them a gretsch guitar and tell them to play any of the beatles songs while singing. The rooftop session is a killer dvd to buy to watch. Just the look on everyones faces when the beatles start jamming is priceless. I like The Beatles a lot always have.
All of them. They remastered the entire catalogue top to bottom. You can buy them individually but the whole thing cost $200.
The earlier stuff is much punchier and sounds almost "punk-like" since it's so raw. But Revolver sounds amazing. There's some debate as to whether the stereo or mono versions are better. I think Rubber Soul sounds better in Mono but Sgt Pepper MUST be in stereo.
People also forget what great players they were, especially McCartney.
I honestly don't get the "boy band" reference, other than they were writing incredible music in their early 20's.
I think of a boy band as something manufactured by a record company. Find a bunch of cute guys who can sing (if not, they'll just use pitch correction or lip syncing). Teach them some dance steps. Buy some songs for them, hire studio musicians, make some videos and market them until the fad dies. (Usually within a year of two). To compare that to the Beatles is like comparing Britney Spears to Iron Maiden.
nelson, have you noticed the beatles quality (or lack thereof) in their live recordings? they sound like hammered dog shiot...their studio mixers made them sound good on vinyl.
i've always thought lennon & mccartney were much better song writers than singers. harrison was adequate...let's not even shame star by mentioning his live performance or song writing abilities..

Beg to differ bro. Even in those early recording with shit sound systems, they sound pretty balls on. In that video, on a rooftop with modest equipment, where Lennon was disgusted and strung out, they still sound great. I also think Lennon and McCartney had two of the greatest voices you'll ever hear. So what can I say? We couldn't be more apart on this.
Well, probably the greatest musical band of genius that manifest in my generation, I was fortunate to hear one of them play live. They were professionally managed, well coached and amazingly self-instructed. Their creative genius and collective talent as a group, is something that other bands hoped to attain. The entire body of their work is of the finest quality that music and art can be. It probably saddened them to know that after a certain point, they just couldnt do it anymore. The press blamed it on various people and a lot of young folks were angry that they broke up and wouldnt be a band anymore. I know that sounds silly, but its a measure of the impact they had on people, So for every one in this thread that doesnt recognize the greatness of their music and the significance of that time, I just want you to know that you missed out on the greatest social phenomena of modern days. JMO

Somehow, I got to be part of it.
Never played Rock Band but would like to give it a go. Looks like fun. Though I have to say, I've played just about all the Beatles songs on bass, guitar and drums so re-learning to do that by pushing buttons seems a little weird! lol
