The type of moron who understands that tards like you will go and give him word of mouth PR thus positively affecting his ratings.

Tardfuck

you listen to Imus?

I listened to him on the drive in sometimes when in the DC area. Beats Howard Stern. Humor plus news/political opinion is a good combination for me. He is an asshole though (which he admits), and Charles is a straight suck-up. Bernie is good, and the guests are pretty good usually.

I also would be interested to know who he was talking about. I don't get him here.

NEW YORK -- Don Imus is creating controversy again.

On his "Imus In The Morning" show Thursday, he referred to the Rutgers women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hos."

Imus started out talking about the Rutgers team as, "some rough girls from Rutgers. They got tattoos," and then went on to call them "some nappy-headed hos."

He compared them to the Tennessee team, saying "The girls from Tennessee -- they all looked cute."

smoofy, you know you need yoself some cornrows.

The conversation then went on to compare the game to "the jigaboos versus the wannabes." Media Matters reported that the show's executive producer, Bernard McGuirk, made that comment.

Imus has more to say about those remarks, according to the New York Times. Imus said people should relax and not worry about "some idiot comment meant to be amusing."

you still gonna listen to him?

the last part there i'd say is a pretty racist remark

You mean because of Bernies comments about jigaboos? Not a nice thing to say for sure.

Seeing as both teams are mostly black, they seem to be complementing and insulting blacks at the same time. I'd be pissed if I went to Rutgers.

I won't change my listening habits due to the comments. I've heard much worse on that show about pretty much every group you can imagine.

That is a known when you tune in.

Imus Apologizes for Rutgers Remark
Apr 6 05:22 PM US/Eastern
Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) - Radio host Don Imus apologized Friday for calling the Rutgers University women's basketball team "nappy headed hos" on his nationally syndicated program.
The National Association of Black Journalists demanded his immediate firing after the man known as "Imus in the Morning" put his foot deep in his mouth Wednesday. Imus questioned the players' looks, describing them as tattooed "rough girls." His producer compared the team—which has eight black members—to the NBA's Toronto Raptors.

Near the start of Friday's show, Imus said he wanted to "apologize for an insensitive and ill-conceived remark we made the other morning referring to the Rutgers women's basketball team."

"It was completely inappropriate, and we can understand why people were offended. Our characterization was thoughtless and stupid, and we are sorry."

what team doesn't have 8 black members.. besides like long beach state or notre dame? even duke has eight black players. nice job national association of black journalists

so its okay to refer to any team with 8 black players on an 11-12 person squad as nappy headed ho's? What's your point?

my point is that it shouldnt be a racial issue, because he was singling out one team as nappy headed hos even though almost every team has the same racial distribution. It was a criticism of tattoos and nappy hair, not race.

This is the stupidest comment I have ever read.
How in the world would Imus know what nappy hair looks like? Hell I can't tell if a black chicks hair is nappy from watching her play basketball...

You didn't address the fact he called them hos as well as if he knows how often they have sex...

Anyway he should lose his job. I will check to see if Jesse jackson or Al Sharpton have a petition of some sort for his resignation and sign it. CBS needs to be pressured more to fire him because he's obviously a biggot

The most disturbing thing I keep hearing is dudes in rap music calling woman hos and bitches. Also people in comedy humor using such foul language. The problem with this is that there is a suit and tie who want to make money who is an executive of an entertainment company who urges this type of behavior to make money. It's black exploitation revisited. many rappers do what they do just as we do our jobs. Many rappers are not like Jay-Z , where they are doing and saying things because it's really them. Rappers and comedians are pressured by sales and job performance like anyone else. So saying that "well they use this language" is ignorant in that one is doing things under pressure to make $$$ and others actually think this type of language and tone is appropriate.

it must stop

Then non-blacks like Imus who fancy themselves as "hip" try to sound chic and repeat language they hear in rap, because rap is so popular.

Same thing happens with everyday non-blacks, especially youth. You see a lot of it right here on this board (e.g., use of the phrase, niggas).

Last I check it was called capitalism...
Celebrities make money all the time to be outlandish and off the wall... Why do you think Britany Spears and Paris Hilton are in the tabloids every 2 seconds. They sell their souls to the capitalist devil for the all mighty $$$, then when thier conscience gets to them , you see them crying on TV talking about how they want privacy...

meh i see your point, but theres no point in argueing mine because no matter how hard we both try we will never completely understand eachother's points of view...

i personally feel that there is a much higher penalty for white people being ignorant than for people of other races being ignorant, and its bullshit in my eyes.

on a different but related note, did u see the southpark where this is adressed?

Tawana Brawley

Hymies in Hymietown

Sharpton and Jackson don't have the moral high ground to comment on this issue, and should be permanently banned from playing the race card.

Now I'm up in arms...

But if people here are going to hear me call myself the N word and then use that as an excuse to call someone else the N word in a pejorative fashion, then I will never use it again.

Yes , I guess we won't be agreeing on that

Isiah Washington use the word Faggot and had to go to therapy
Jesse Jackson made the hymietown comments about jews and lost his whole political career

The idea that blacks get a free pass to make racist comments is total rubbish

I see your point, but I have a different approach. What happens right now if you call a white guy cracker? He will probably laugh or ignore you, because it is a meaningless word, just a way to joke with someone. Yet nigger is a fighting word to many.

As black individuals secure social and economic status, and a strong sense of self-worth they should become less sensitive to words like nigger, because they aren't serious words at all.

Eventually the word nigger will be about as offensive as the word honky.

If Imus called the Baseball team from the Univ of Kentucky a bunch of honkies it wouldn't even make print.

i have much respect for you gjohnson. . .but jesse never had much of a political career imho anyway. . .and that comment didn't do anything (except maybe for a very short period of time) to damage his career as a public figure, political pundit and self-appointed spokesperson for the black community. . .jewish people chuckled at his comment and moved on. . .nobody cared. in the case of don imus. . .he's a friggin washed-up old douchebag, howard stern wannabe. . .i can't believe that anyone gives a rat-ass what he thinks. . .friggum!

I thought it was funny.

In fact, I've called everyone I've seen since a nappy headed ho, even if they had nice hair and they weren't sexually promiscuous.

You know what I’d have done if Al Sharpton had pulled that crap on me? I would have gone on his show and taken a shit on his desk. If you’re going to act like a little bitch, you should be treated like one. Quit whining already.

Never mind people are making naked statues of JESUS out of Chocolate (Hey kids, who wants a bite of Christ's dick?), we're still stuck in this psudo-enlightened age that states we have to censor EVERYTHING we say about EVERYONE, so as not to be offensive.

Hypocrisy at its best always gets me riled up.

the only reason why i dont think its as big a deal as that is because he didnt say anything about blacks necessarily, he just called them nappy headed hoes.

its still offensive to talk that way about someone, but unless he has a history of being racist or something, he probably didnt intend to be racist

you're trying so hard to find racism that you aren't even thinking rationally. the tennessee team, who he praised, is also predominantly black. so explain to me where the racism comes into play.

Yes, but he works for a private company. They don't have to continue to pay him millions of dollars to say stupid shit on thier forum if the shareholders/sponsors don't want to tolerate it any longer.

1. Nappy-headed is a clearly derogatory and racially motivated reference. If you cannot admit that then you are either an idiot or being deliberately obtuse.

2. Ho is 'ebonics' for whore. Last time I checked it was not too polite to call someone a whore. Especially when you don't even know them.

So to sum up, this fool made a derogatory racial remark about a bunch of women he doesn't even know.

People can try and spin it every which way by bringing up Al and Jesse but that's besides the point. Are Al and Jesse racists themselves? Without a doubt. What does that have to do with anything?

Thanks for playing.

Bingo.

did anyone watch Leno last night? i was flipping through and Wanda Sykes (comedian) was on and Jay asked her what she thought about all the controversy over the comment and she said everyone's been asking her for her opinion on it and she said, "since when did I become the spokesperson for nappy headed hos? This (pointing to her hair) is CURLY...it's curly...now ho...well, that's debateable" hahaha, she's funny...

The First Amendment does not include private enterprise, it is well within CBS's rights to terminate his contract if he hurts them financially. The loss of advertising has already begun. Imus is an idiot and his rating were already falling to near zero. The MSNBC show only had a .3 share. 300,000 watchers of a national show is piddling.

For me, I don't consider "nappy" to be a racist term.

We called each other that all the time - nappy headed....

dunno

Barely 12 hours after being fired from MSNBC...

6:12 AM: On Imus' radio program (no longer simulcast on MSNBC) this morning, Chris Carlin, who covers sports for the program, discussed yesterday's dismissal of charges against the Duke lacrosse players.

Don Imus (6:12 AM this Morning) said:
DON IMUS: When will Al Sharpton be apologizing to them?

(LAUGHTER)

CARLIN: I'm unaware of such a press conference.

IMUS: I'll be darned...

Now I have to admit, that's pretty funny.

nah...i wouldn't consider any of that racist....derogatory yes, but not racist....it would be the equivalent of calling someone a long haired hippy in my eyes. hardly racist.

now, his sidekick calling them jiggaboos.....that I would consider racist.

And just who counts as "people of color" is it all non-causasian peoples? Or do some white people skate in on the blanket of "regionalisms"...

How thick and coarse must ones hair be to be considered "nappy" anyways?

Just wondering; I know I don't qualify anymore (hair loss be damned) but I'm sure a few of my ex'es probably still make the cut.

VERY UNTRUE. I've heard/seen many black people on tv say racial remarks and nothing is said or done about it. There is a HUGE double standard going on right now in this country and it makes me sick. It seems like some people in the black community are trying to use the racial card to get rid of all white people in highend jobs. the BET channel is not racist right? And how about all this push for black coaches in professional sports, how about whites push that there arent enough white athletes in professional sports or on BET. Now that I think of it I think Im going to hire a lawyer and sue that channel.....

Instead of wasting time on irrelevant shock jock, black leaders need to be fighting a growing gangster culture.
By JASON WHITLOCK - Columnist

Thank you, Don Imus. You’ve given us (black people) an excuse to avoid our real problem.

You’ve given Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson another opportunity to pretend that the old fight, which is now the safe and lucrative fight, is still the most important fight in our push for true economic and social equality.

You’ve given Vivian Stringer and Rutgers the chance to hold a nationally televised recruiting celebration expertly disguised as a news conference to respond to your poor attempt at humor.

Thank you, Don Imus. You extended Black History Month to April, and we can once again wallow in victimhood, protest like it’s 1965 and delude ourselves into believing that fixing your hatred is more necessary than eradicating our self-hatred.

The bigots win again.

While we’re fixated on a bad joke cracked by an irrelevant, bad shock jock, I’m sure at least one of the marvelous young women on the Rutgers basketball team is somewhere snapping her fingers to the beat of 50 Cent’s or Snoop Dogg’s or Young Jeezy’s latest ode glorifying nappy-headed pimps and hos.

I ain’t saying Jesse, Al and Vivian are gold-diggas, but they don’t have the heart to mount a legitimate campaign against the real black-folk killas.

It is us. At this time, we are our own worst enemies. We have allowed our youths to buy into a culture (hip hop) that has been perverted, corrupted and overtaken by prison culture. The music, attitude and behavior expressed in this culture is anti-black, anti-education, demeaning, self-destructive, pro-drug dealing and violent.

Rather than confront this heinous enemy from within, we sit back and wait for someone like Imus to have a slip of the tongue and make the mistake of repeating the things we say about ourselves.

It’s embarrassing. Dave Chappelle was offered $50 million to make racially insensitive jokes about black and white people on TV. He was hailed as a genius. Black comedians routinely crack jokes about white and black people, and we all laugh out loud.

I’m no Don Imus apologist. He and his tiny companion Mike Lupica blasted me after I fell out with ESPN. Imus is a hack.

But, in my view, he didn’t do anything outside the norm for shock jocks and comedians. He also offered an apology. That should’ve been the end of this whole affair. Instead, it’s only the beginning. It’s an opportunity for Stringer, Jackson and Sharpton to step on victim platforms and elevate themselves and their agenda$.

I watched the Rutgers news conference and was ashamed.

Martin Luther King Jr. spoke for eight minutes in 1963 at the March on Washington. At the time, black people could be lynched and denied fundamental rights with little thought. With the comments of a talk-show host most of her players had never heard of before last week serving as her excuse, Vivian Stringer rambled on for 30 minutes about the amazing season her team had.

Somehow, we’re supposed to believe that the comments of a man with virtually no connection to the sports world ruined Rutgers’ wonderful season. Had a broadcaster with credibility and a platform in the sports world uttered the words Imus did, I could understand a level of outrage.

But an hourlong press conference over a man who has already apologized, already been suspended and is already insignificant is just plain intellectually dishonest. This is opportunism. This is a distraction.

In the grand scheme, Don Imus is no threat to us in general and no threat to black women in particular. If his words are so powerful and so destructive and must be rebuked so forcefully, then what should we do about the idiot rappers on BET, MTV and every black-owned radio station in the country who use words much more powerful and much more destructive?

I don’t listen or watch Imus’ show regularly. Has he at any point glorified selling crack cocaine to black women? Has he celebrated black men shooting each other randomly? Has he suggested in any way that it’s cool to be a baby-daddy rather than a husband and a parent? Does he tell his listeners that they’re suckers for pursuing education and that they’re selling out their race if they do?

When Imus does any of that, call me and I’ll get upset. Until then, he is what he is — a washed-up shock jock who is very easy to ignore when you’re not looking to be made a victim.

No. We all know where the real battleground is. We know that the gangsta rappers and their followers in the athletic world have far bigger platforms to negatively define us than some old white man with a bad radio show. There’s no money and lots of danger in that battle, so Jesse and Al are going to sit it out.

excerpts:

Q: A Civil Rights movement? In 2006?

Dude, it’s in the air. Black people are tired of letting idiots define who we are. It’s dangerous. I grew up loving hip hop music. But the [bleep] is way out of hand now. Flavor Flav went from fighting the power with Chuck D to a minstrel show on VH1. You have all of these young rap idiots putting out negative images about black men and black women, and it’s on us to stop it and say enough is a enough. It’s not on white people. And it’s not on old black people like Cosby and Oprah. We have to police our own. W.E.B. Dubois talked about the talented 10 percent leading the black masses. We’re letting the Ignorant 5 lead us straight to hell. The Ignorant 5 are telling white folks, “Yeah, this is how we really is. Let me bojangle for ya, boss. You say step and I’ll show ya I can fetch.” And what's even more dangerous, the Ignorant 5 are telling black kids, It's cool to be locked up. It makes a man out of you. And don't embrace education. Dealing dope and playing basketball are better career choices. The Ignorant 5 is the new KKK and twice as deadly. That's why you don't hear 'bout the KKK anymore. The Klan is just sitting back letting 50 Cent and all the other bojanglers do all the heavy lifting.

Q: People say you play the race card far too frequently. Your response?

Black people think I'm too hard on black people. They write me and tell me I'm a sellout. White people say I play the race card too much when I question the timing of Charlie Weis' contract extension. But those same white people write me love letters when I blast off into the way the media and a prosecutor tried to crucify the Duke lacrosse players on the word of a couple of black criminal escorts. I'm going to write about race because race is an issue in America and my life experience has put me in a position to have something insightful and intelligent to say about race. I don't have an agenda when it comes to racial issues. There's enough stupidity on both sides of America's black-white dilemma to keep me typing for years. I don't have a guilty conscience about race. The people in my life know that I choose my friends solely on the content of their character. And I don't choose sides in my column based on the color of anyone's skin.

People can try and spin it every which way by bringing up Al and Jesse but that's besides the point. Are Al and Jesse racists themselves? Without a doubt. What does that have to do with anything?

Thanks for playing.

ROFL at HO being ebonics, and only black peeps having nappy hair. YOU'RE EVEN MORE RACIST THAN DON IMUS. not because you're a bigot, but because you're just dumb.

Do you even interact with people socially on a regular basis? white girls in my classes have been calling eachothers HOs and talking about nappy hair since i was in like 5th grade almost 15 years ago. it has absolutely nothing to do with race, and started well before it became funny to emulate black people.

CBS cancels Don Imus' radio show, effective immediately, after uproar over his racist and sexist comments about Rutgers women's basketball team.

I guess one would need to know more about the females over at Rutgers to see the humor in his statement.

Again, you're insinuating that only people of color can have nappy hair.

I used to call my hair nappy back in high school when I was having a bad hair day. I had NO idea that word was saved for another race!

No humour in his statement just stupidity. I don't think he should have been canned though. I don't believe they did it because it was the right thing to do. If advertisers were still willing to pay he would have been back after suspension.

Sorry my humor is demented - NYers have been making bad jokes about NJ especially NJ girls for years...

I honestly don't see how the statement in worthy of being removed from your job - what I do think is that NBC was just looking for a reason to get rid of him and they got one, one that would make them look good to boot.

Besides, if you've ever watched SNL - you've watched worse racist jokes than his comments.

Well I guess CBS, like NBC, saw to much disappearing $$$ because of advertiser pull out.....I wish Imus would just stand up and tell everybody, especially Sharpton and "hymie town" Jackson, to go to hell.

My friend who graduated from Rutgers last year says it's extremely ghetto. It IS in Newark, right?

Wonder if Al Sharpton has commented recently about the Whitebread LaCrosse players.

i'm kinda fed up with black folk being so, comparitively, thin skinned.

It's not so much black folk, in general. Most I know are pretty upbeat. But there is a group of "victims" that scour the media in search of something to rail against. Jesse and Al are at the top of the pecking order.

yeah. i mean, in all honesty, none of the fellas down the street here know a fucking thing about that, or knew, until it hit the local news. they weren't up watching MSNBC.

I find it interesting however the number of responses where people didn't think "nappy hair' was a racist remark. I think the issue is the extent in which black folks have been portrayed negatively has simply become common place to where now I guess anyone could have nappy hair. I guess coarse hair is no longer a requirement to be termed nappy headed???

Interesting

Anyway I wish CBS , MSNBC and other cable , and TV channels need to be held responsible for the negative portrayals of minority folks instead of simply firing Imus. He was a scape goat. But these same companies make money off people buying record which perpetuate stereotypes of minorities negatively and that needs to stop as well

Viacom also owns BET. Will Viacom become socially responsible for all their holdings?

And Sharpton kind has some nappy hair. I was never really an IMUS fan anyways. I love the look on his face lately. Plus, the two white girls on the Rutgers bball team are not nappy headed ho's.

BET this , BET that.

You know how many white people I see on a precor machine at the gym tuned into BET???

BET is soo commercialized , I cannot say it is just for black people. Anyway I agree that you'll probably see Imus on satellite radio even more controversial..
