While Edison will probably win you a pie on Trivial Pursuit to 75% of the questions "who invented", most of Tesla's brilliance is unknown to the majority of the world.

Edison is generally called an inventor and businessman while Tesla is called a "mad scientist."

Tesla sort of shook his head at the way Edison would try ten thousand different things that obviously wouldn't work, just to make sure.

The DC vs AC thing was more Westinghouse (with Tesla as his employee) vs. Edison, with Edison on the side of DC. Really long distance lines need high voltage, which means AC. Distributed production and storage is where DC would shine.
