AUSTELL, Ga. (June 28) - A teenager was killed at the Six Flags Over Georgia on Saturday when he hopped a pair of fences into a restricted area and was struck by the theme park's popular Batman roller coaster, authorities said.

Local NBC affiliate WXIA reported on it's Web site 11Alive.com that the boy was decapitated around 2:30 p.m. The coaster can travel as fast as 50 miles per hour.

Park spokeswoman Hela Sheth said in a news release the 17-year-old scaled two six-foot fences that were clearly marked with signs that read "Danger" and "Do Not Enter."

"We do not know why this person was intent on gaining access to this restricted area," Sheth said. She did not identify the teenager.

"Some witnesses have stated that the individual was trying to retrieve something he had lost. Others reported that he was trying to touch the ride. This is merely speculation at this point, and we are working with park visitors and local police to learn more."

She said no guests on the ride were injured.

Cobb County police were investigating the incident on Saturday. They did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

Three security guards were keeping visitors away from the coaster ride on Saturday.

A teenager's legs were severed when cables snapped on the Superman Tower of Power ride at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville in June 2007. Doctors were able to reattach Kaitlyn Lasitter's right foot, but she had to have some of her left leg amputated and subsequent surgeries.

State officials blame a faulty cable and slow response by an amusement park ride operator in the accident. Her family is suing Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, claiming the park failed to maintain the ride and equipment and ensure riders' safety. The amusement park has denied liability in court filings. Bill o Reilly blames hiphop for this incident.

Wait....he blames the chick with her legs cut off on hiphop or this kid gettin his head chopped off on hiphop?

pretty stupid , just like the kids that stood on the wall at the zoo yelling at tigers and tormenting him , then the shit their pants when the tiger came for um

Ewww! Sad but not suprising! Wonder if he lost his cell phone while on the ride or something. Still...duh!

Wow...that's maybe 10 ten minutes from here. Another idiot broke his neck there several years ago from doing something equally as stupid.

Exactly, all you have to do is tell management or somone. My dad lost a valuable pocketwatch and he told them. They called up to the guys that start the ride to wait, and then got it for us. As soon as he said to go ahead, the ride started. Thats one reason we have shit like walkie-talkies. Its sad but I honestly only feel sorry for the girl.

The only person "at blame" here is the moron of a teenager.

Sorry, I have no empathy for this one.

If I had to muster up some, it would be for the park.

damn, we think very similar. i was going to say, natural selection at work.

and if the parents even attempt to sue the park, i would honestly laugh in their faces.

fucking bring in 6 foot high fence with danger sign as exhinit A and 6 foot high fence with danger do not pass sign as exhibit B and ask, what do these big fences and signs represent? entrances? exits? candy? thats right, do not go past.

Human beings have these advanced abilities called "denial" and "irrationality" though, and many have been able to use it to their advantage. Maybe these folks can too!

I did something similar once when I lost a hat on a water ride.

The fence I hopped was only like 4' though. And while I was there, I was like, cool, lotsa hats! I totally nabbed another cool hat along with mine.

Also, I didn't get decapitated.

Also, this was before cell phones.

Yeah, if I feel bad for anyone, its the poor guy who had to clean up the mess...

true. clearly the park did not do enough by placing not 1 but 2 high fences to block people from passing. i can see where the family may argue.

the park is clearly at fault here. 8 foot fences would have been just right. lestat, back me up.

lol

kids fault for not obeying the sign. plain and simple. Park has no liability at all for this.

I feel bad for the family though.

I'm gonna take a big wild stabbing guess here:

He's public school educated. His parents were too. And they're lower income class.

lol.

Man his poor family must be in shock! They said on the news here that he lost his hat on the ride and jumped the fence to try and get it back. That was just plain stupid!

There are millions of people who are just that. No cause and effect relationship could possibly be drawn if the above were found to be true. We only have one data point (one kid getting his head cut off). Stats 101, a sufficient size of data points have to be used to draw a meaningful inference. Youre smarter than that.
