Suffocating Debt

Anyone else in debt? It causes so much stress I wish I could just start over with a clean slate. I think it was large contributor to my last bout of depression. It seems like I cannot do anything, go anywhere, its like a ball and chain that I won't be getting rid of anytime soon. I already made positive steps in getting out of debt; I only make necessary purchases now - I ask myself if I need or want before I buy, I paid off all my credit cards and torched them, literally.

Even after doing this though I am still in the red and it seems like I'll never get out. I have student loan debt which isn't bad as far as payments are concerned but I was stupid and didn't get a federal student loan so I have an AR which is currently at 10.5% $20k. I also have a $6k loan I took out for furniture and such when I first moved out of my parents which is 25% interest. On top of all of that I bought a brand new truck which I felt at the time was an important part of maintaining the image I had (another mistake) which I pay $500 a month for not including insurance.

I know I got myself into this but anyone have any tips for getting out of it? :worried:

You married?

Nope, don't plan on getting married any time soon either. Yet another reason I would like to achieve financial stability, don't want to go down that road until then.

Find a homeless person, take out a life insurance policy on them, and then run them over with your car.......
You sick bastard, roflmao. Sort of funny though because I took out a life insurance policy on myself during my last bout of depression that would cover all my debt if I killed myself.

Live as a minimalist...throw as much cash as you can at the debt and get a better job. You already have the marriage thing covered. I've pwned my student loans with this philosophy.

Yeah, the job I have now isn't bad but I have been thinking about getting a second job. I would have no free time but I think it would be worth it in the long run. Thanks.

cut how old are you?
i have debt too, i try not to think about it in hopes that i die before i have to pay

Get a part-time job...suffer for a little while until you get your debt paid down more. Pay off the furniture first...that interest is crazy.

Dude..you have plenty of opportunities.Stop worrying so much....just sayin'. :)
I guess. It's hard not to though because I would like to pursue a serious relationship or travel, those kinds of things but It seems like I'll never be able to at this rate. Thanks to everyone for the advice I'm probably going to bed now.

find a sugar momma and ask her if she has a rich sister for me!

You're not in bad shape.
The truck, you're stuck with that.

Do you have a credit card? I would try to refi the furniture and student loans into something with lower interest. Credit balance transfer etc. That all depends on your credit rate etc. If you have questions there I'm sure someone will help you out.

If you're 22 your probably not going to get a great paying job so it would probably be wise to a second job for a while. First thing is the more you work the less time you have to spend money. Hanging out every night is a waste of time any ways or I should say if you know what's on TV every night it's a waste of time.

Who knows who you'll meet or bang along the way. LOL.

It's only money and things man.... I think working out is my saving grace because that's my passion... If I lost my job tomorrow and had to work for 8$ an hour for awhile, wouldn't bother me a bit.... Credit cards are a necessary evil sometimes.... You can pay them off when you make more money and they come in handy when you are living in the red..... People put too much pressure on themselves to keep their things and job.....Sometimes it's out of your control.... Learn to enjoy the simple things and have a passion that can't be taken away from you because of lack of funds..... And certainly don't worry about impressing other people including family... Be your own man. I drive an old car that has a cracked windshield... I could spend some money to fix it up and make it look cool, but I don't give a shit... It serves it's function to get me where I need to go and the extra money goes to savings so I can retire some day maybe.

or just tell everyone to go F themselves and live off welfare til the bankruptcy and other stuff drops off your credit report. 75th, Army Vet, java, and the rest of us will be more than happy to support you.

You can overcome your debt...just look for opportunities and don't get yourself deeper.

It's really sad when people kill themselves over money... They haven't learned to appreciate the simple things in life.

Both of those things you can do. Be a courier or something like that for travel. There are plenty of frugal items that you can do for dates. I've got to believe that all the men in your area aren't shallow and needy.

I do appreciate the simple things in life. I was going through a rough spell and had a drinking problem and after downing a 1/5th of jack it seemed like the right thing to do. I'll never let myself get to that point again but can't say I'll never be depressed again. The bad times make the good times seem all the better though.

We all get down sometimes, it's when you stay down that there's a problem.... It's a matter of perspective.... I used to be prone to depression until I changed my perspective.

Wow. You paid off the unsecured debt first. I would have done it the other way around; not sure what to say.

Look first of all change your username, it's not very positive. Then I've beaten two depressions and helped some people to do the same, so I know my shit!!! Jack shots along Belvedere cranberry, gallons of beer and some ectstasy at New York after-hours used to be my thursday through monday routine. Now honestly tell us what is THE REAL SOURCE OF YOUR DEPRESSION?

A) I'd change my user name if I could but I think you have to create a new account to do that.

B) Well this thread wasn't created about depression but sure I'll elaborate. I don't think my depression can be tied to on specific thing I think it is more of a mix of things, being in debt has been one of them. Drinking was a problem but I have a handle on that, never was an alcoholic but I did use it as an escape. Self esteem has always been the largest contributor to it. Thats about it.

People with $120,000+ in student loans aren't allowed to participate in this conversation.

Got to the top of screen where is written YOUR ACCOUNT there you can change your username.

Look bro all the stuff I've done was for six months or so, not that i ever was drug addict or alcoholic, I just used it as an escape, just like you said.

I know that money is an issue specially when you decide to live on your own, you have to pay your bills, a decision might seem good at short term but it might fuck u up on the long run you know what i mean? You must realize that you don't have the means to be where you wanna for now.

Honestly I think you should talk w your parents and explain the situation to them.

When you manage to pay your debts, keep in mind that you had that problem once and save money for another possible "rainy day".

Now... Life and bodybuilding are an analogy if you build a strong foundation you will most likely be able to achieve your goals.

Just chill bro. Aint worth stressing over. Pay double if you can on credit card and loan payments. If not, just always make the minimums and make sure you always have about $500 in the bank for emergencys.

make more money. Its the only way to get out of sinking debt. To make more cash.

Start finding happiness OUTSIDE material things. Do that first.

Second, stop buying shit you can't afford. Do that next.

Third, realize how great your life is now compared to others who WISH they had your problem instead of prison, disease, poverty, 3rd world opression, age, obesity, family problems, etc. etc. etc. Go volunteer at a substance abuse or va hospital or homeless shelter to see how fucked up the rest of the world really is.

You can't go to jail for debt. So unless you're buying a hosue - who cares. Banks and companeis go in debt and declare 'due to ever-changing market conditions' to fuck over stockholders, ask for bailouts, not pay their bills, whatever. So it's not a big deal. Pay it off slowly or not at all. Concentrae on yourself. Annoyed with calls? Change your numbers.

Shit is too easy. I have zero debt and don't even use cc's. My cr could be 125 and I couldn't give a rats ass.

An SSRI may help if your depression and anxiety about it is that bad. You shouldnt be dwelling on this. Also a symptom of being bipolar I is that you will get yourself into credit card debt. Maybe a mood stabilizer?

And Im just saying, something to think about. Im sure you would further research and seek out the advice of a professional who is well educated.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm you got an education and maybe a good time? There are so many others who are in debt that they did not ask for nor from which they gleaned benefit.

It ain't no thang.

Do what you got to do to keep moving forward.... especially if you gleaned something positive from that debt. :)
