steroids and antidepressants

Probably not a very popular view but due to the varying effects the widly ranging hormones can have on the mental state of people I feel that if you are being treated for depression you should avoid AAS.

I agree.

Tyson was on Prozac when he started his comeback and his aggressiveness waned......he wasn't the same fighter attitude wise.

Anti-depressants rob you of your natural cognizant ability to deal with things, and just treats the problem rather than the symptom. It's like being a drug addict, only your brain is the addict, to the seratonin.

yeah...I agree. Prozac definitely mellows you out. I think Tyson was somehow able to time his fights so he fought during the 'manic' phase of his manic-depression...if so, it definitely helped him win.

i dont like to mess with stuff like prozac or any of those.. some other things to try are " 5 HTP " - converts into seritonin or things with Kava Kava plant like "happy camper" . -- both of which o.t.c. as for the other recovery.. i must take this time to speak highly of the TZ3 stack which im sure you already know of.. but just to remind you it not only has the zma in it but the tribulus terrestris and the " 4-etioallocholen 3,6,17 trione (inhibits estregen) -- good luck

Sounds like there's a lot of advice here about depression from people who know jack-shit about it and have never suffered from it.
I agree that coming off the juice brings on depression, but that passes.
I have suffered from depression most of my adult life.
I have a relatively stress-free, high-paying job, a beautiful wife, a gorgeous 13 month old boy, a fantastic home and no money problems or personal problems to speak of.

My depression is caused by a chemical imbalance & Prozac fixes it.
A chemical imbalance - end of story.

I agree that medication may not be needed in every case, and that sometimes prescribing anti-depressants is an easy quick-fix, but this is not the case with everybody.

Just for the record, I love being on the juice. It motivates me to train harder, eat better, lead a healthier lifestyle and sends my self-image through the roof. When I come off my cycle, I'll reduce the AS dosages, begin PCT and adjust my training accordingly. Any depression from 'juice-withdrawl' passes quickly and it's back to business as usual.

I've found this forum to be an invaluable place for gaining advice, but I guess not everyone engages their brain before setting their mouth in motion.

I'll get off my soapbox now...

Peace out.

I agree with you that medication help, but medications are not needed in every person that has depression. No one every takes the time to find out why the person is depressed they just see that they are depressed and give them a drug. They are different levels and the only ones that really need it is the ones with sever depression. Just my opinion though. You said you never did pct that may be your problem. You do pct for a number of reasons one being to get your normal hormone balance back and when you don't get the normal balance back you will get depressed. This is probably your problem.
Don't give advice without knowledge and just based on your 'opinion'.
There is a specific diagnostic criterion for Major Depression based on DSM-IV.
Depression is caused by imbalance of neuro-transmitters in brain.
Any precipitating event only unmasks it.
Medicines correct that imbalance.
It can also be treated by long term psychotherapy.

A little off-subject but, a couple of years ago I had a bad reaction to scopalamine (med in sea-sick patch) that left me with many of the symptoms of depression (lethargic, couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, couldn't pay attention. . .). Anway, after a few days I went to the doc and he put me on Paxil for a few weeks. After I was taking it for a couple of days, in addition to feeling better, I noticed an interesting side-effect. . .I could screw for like an hour if I wanted to. . .complete control. I went back to the doc and told him about the experience and he gave me a box of samples and told me to have a good time. Great stuff.

I agree completely....I also suffered from chemical imbalance about 10 yrs. ago and can say it was the most frightening time of my life. You think you're going crazy for no reason and can't understand what is happening to you. Depression has MANY different levels and treatments. For me it was zoloft and I have to take it everyday. I've tried many times going without it but came to realize I can't. I thought it would take several weeks to feel a change if I didn't take it so I didn't care if I went a few days without refilling my script but soon found out that by the end of the 3rd day it was a rapid downward spiral. There was only one time post cycle that I felt depressed and I believe it was the clomid. The cycle was deca/test which I have ran several times but that was the only time I used clomid post and will never use it again. I'll stick to HCG/Nolva. If you've been through clinically diagnosed depression/anxiety put in your 2 cents, if not, don't assume because you have no idea how it feels until you've experience it.
I LOVE being on the juice too and will continue to do so because it doesn't affect me negatively but that doesn't mean it won't mess with someone else. It's a judgement call.

One of the rare times I agree with you, dogoftheday......

Why?

Because I own a copy of the DSM-IV.

It's a must for all Psych majors.
